I'll make something to do this for you, but it will be in freebasic and you'll need to wait about an hour and a half sorry as I'm doing some work on the board.

The good news is that it will be about 6kb when it's packed.. I'll use tinyptc and freebasic to make it.

Just doing it now.. The board took a little longer than I planned.. It's going to be pixel bashing I'm afraid.. Maybe someone else will give you an ogl alternative in C++ or something :)

There it is;

(In Freebasic), exe attached, it's crunched with upx and is about 7kb, will go even smaller with something decent like kkrunchy or mew. :)

In openGL you could probable create a small texture with the bars shifted one pixel down for each pixel across. Then create a quad using it as a texture. Scale the quad lenghtwise and then manipulate the texture U/V texture pointers to have it scroll up or down.

That would work nice.. Nb the reaon that this method either looks like the bars are rotating or just scrolling sideways or upwards is that the horizontal scroll needs to be faster than the vertical, about 5* faster works here.

So with the gl method you'd probably need to bear that in mind to make it authentic :)

@shockwave:
thanks for the fx... looks great... i just have try to convert it to PB and understand what and how you have done it ^^

@zawran:
you mean an 4x4 texture with diagonal lines would work? i thought about such an idea and scalling the texture... the probs are just:  this will be my first OGL prod ever and i dont know atm how to do this with OGL and i am not sure if it looks like the original (shockwaves version ^^)

For what it's worth, I think you nearly have the technique right in the example you gave me. You should just play with it a bit to make it look like it's turning... It's a matter of messing around with rotation speed, scroll speed and bar thickness to get this right, but as a rule of thumb the x step of changing the colour needs to be higher for thinner bars. It needs to scroll sideways a lot quicker than vertically.
