Lavapit Demo
« on: August 21, 2007 »

I thought I'd try and finish something for a change. So here it is:

Download link

Its 600 and something K, so I couldent upload it to the site. If Shockwave or someone feels like doing it that would be cool. Its kind of lacking sound, and it might run a little slow for some of you with older computers. Hopefully It wont be too slow tho.

I like the idea of the hot embers floating up out of the Lava, the sierpinski triangle thing and the scroller could be set on fire as well? :)

Blitz struggles with this kind of program, it runs pretty well considering it's all pixel pushing :)

The design is terrific dude. Great to see you've sorted out the fire routine, also like the "Keep it Simple text" in wiggly upscroller. Nice touch with the transparencies and the triangle formations.

Welldone Mike :)

Cheers,
Clyde.

Thanks for the nice feedback everyone

Shockwave: Nice idea, but I don't think I would be able to get it fast enough with everything on fire. Its pretty slow as it is.

Clyde: Thanks for the link, and the font :)

Karma++ for uploading a cool new demo mike.
I like the balls, they do a remarkable job of suggesting lava when added to your fire. I was quite amazed.

Very nice, I like your scrolling text alot. Nice way of displaying the triangles too, but I think the alpha effect brought a sweat to my poor 1.2GHz :D

If you are drawing the whole fire buffer and blending every pixel including the black ones as it is, then you souldnt really get much of a slowdown if the text or triangles, or atleast the edges of the triangle draws some info into the fire buffer. You could even just draw the top edge of pixels from the text as info into the fire buffer.

Cheers tetra. I know its slow, thats why I'm trying to get into C++ a bit more right now. I was only drawing the fire image to roughly where the image turned to black. While there is room for some optimisation in my code, I doubt I'll get back to it :( Oh well on to bigger and better things I hope...
