[PLANTLIFE] Buzzy Bees
« on: June 24, 2008 »

This is my new Buzzy Bees entry for the Plant Life competition.

It will require Jim's Yabasic emulator, so if you haven't downloaded it yet, please download it here:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~jimshaw/Yabasic/ps2yabasic1.6b3.zip

Open the file "bees.txt" in the emulator
Then select run program > run
Press escape to exit at any time

It takes a while to get going, but if you set it to full screen and put on some relaxing music, it makes a nice screen saver type thing, especially when there are four or more bees on screen.

That's cute :D

The warning to wait is definitely needed as initially it looks as though the drawing routines have gone a bit funny.  Once it gets going properly though, it's great.

Worth the wait though very interesting to do something like this and you got the just the right balance between seeding and dying. Its always great to see some AI in a demo too

Thanks guys.

I was going to have some butterflies and caterpillars in there to eat the plants, but the whole thing was getting too complicated, so I took them out and doubled the number of bees and flowers.

I might do an update with some clouds.

combatking0,
fantastic - love the bees, whizzing about to the various plants/flowers - very very good.

Nice demo!

I really like how some flowers grow faster and bigger than others little attention to details like this adds to the realism.

The flowers with the most leaves grow faster and die sooner. Each flower also has a maximum number of leaves it can grow, though they all start with two.

I'll see what I can do. I might make a flash version of this over the summer.
