I am still not sure about the whole 1-1 remakes myself, dont think its my cup of tea as far as coding. It is nice seeing some of the old classics i recall from the amiga including some I had forgotten tho
Well, coding oldschool effects on modern hardware requires very little skill as far as I am concerned, please don't take this the wrong way because I know you made your own tribute intros, but making a pixel perfect representation of an original can take a great deal of skill and shows the original author of the intro more respect than making some kind of 40% faithful parody of their work.
I am lucky to be in touch with several people who coded these great old intros and I would bet a fair bit of money that they would either be amused or offended on a rendition of their work that didn't pay proper homage to it.
On the other side of the coin, the memberlist at retro-remakes.net reads like a who's who in the Amiga underground scene in the late 80's and early 90's.
These guys are still around, they love seeing a good job done to restore the classics so that people can watch the intros as they were meant to be watched without using emulators, the intros are a very important part of who I am today, without them I would never have bought an Amiga and my comments here are vindicated to me when I can count amongst my friends original members of Trilogy, Crest, Alcatraz, Skid Row and more, and I suppose the Pinnacle has been when Photon of Scoopex contacted me and asked me to remake his intro.
Anyone may question the validity of making 1:1 remakes, I don't think thats what you mean here because you've sort of said that it's not something that appeals to you as a coder but you do enjoy watching them.
To me it seems like a little bit of a waste of talent because you clearly have the skills to do 1:1 remakes if you wanted to and I think you could contribute a lot to the project that Stormbringer and I set up, it has serious momentum, over 430 remakes so far and over 700 people have signed up over there, your skills could certainly help to complete the library and it's really cool when someone from the original group emails you to thank them for making a good job on their intro.
