I use to try playing it on the school bbc's as well. Lter I got the amiga filled vector version and found it much easier to play. Games like Freelancer and the X series while good still dont feel as freefrom as elite did back then.

I had the game for my Amiga back in the day. I spent countless hours on that. :)

I remember seeing it in the shops when I was a kid, I was still in primary school and the game looked unbelievable, I never played it back then, the first time I played Elite was on the PC several years later.

I do remember the black box with the awesome logo and how everyone was touting it as the greatest game ever made.

Interesting to do some googling on Ian Bell too and how he and Braben fell out over the game.

I played it on the Acorn Electron, the BBC B and the Spectrum when it came out, and much later on the Amiga.  The BBC B disk version was funny.  You knew when the Thargoids were coming because the disk would start clattering while you were in a hyperspace jump :)

Yeah, I remember it too. Do not know how many times I spent in
front of it. I played it on my very first PC ( Schneider Amstrad CPC
6128 with a green monochrome monitor ).

Awesome!
