Title: PLANTLIFE COMPETITION VOTING!
Post by: Shockwave on July 06, 2008

 Welcome to the voting for the plantlife competition!

A big round of applause please for our seven horticultural programmers who donned the gardening gloves to give us this fine crop of entries!

Unfortunately my own harvest failed this time so for the first time I have to sit out a challenge here. However I would sincerely like to thank each one of you who entered this littel challenge :)

Please vote and support the competition entrants with your votes.. You know they deserve it!

Very important, you must choose 3 of your favourites, self voting is not allowed. These votes are audited.

Please see below a refresher of the entries and some screen shots :)

Grass Veins By Benny.

Here we have a Java entry where a very fast growing plant grows accross a landscape, the view is from above and the display scrolls around smoothly as it tracks the fast growing plant.

Music is played in the background during this fun intro!

Combatking
Buzzy Bees!

This entry is written in PS2 Yabsic, which has very limited drawing powers, nevertheless, Combatking has created a garden where plants grow, bloom and die and bees buzz around the garden moving from flower to flower.

Motorherp
RandomZen

Firstly the computer does a little bit of thinking, and then creates a gnarled tree mesh which is then displayed in wire-frame and rotated. The view is from an artistic angle above the object as it rotates smoothly.

Pixel Outlaw
Botanophobia

Here we have a screen full of semi-transparrent leaves rotating around, which in its self is quite a hypnotic effect, and over that some scary thoughts from a presumably psychotic plant drift up over the top of the background, congratulations are in order to Pixel Outlaw for getting some scene poetry into his entry. ;)

Rain Storm
Regrowth

This entry, like Combatking's is written with PS2 Yabasic, there are a lot of things happening in this intro so Here's what happens.. There is a scrolling landscape with trees and grass, night changes to day, during the day, birds fly above the trees, at night the stars come out, over all this the scroll text is made up from blooming flowers, very impressive work for Yabasic.

Rbz
Flores

As usual Rbz doesn't dissapoint us, his intro features a variety of different flower heads that rotate as they drift upwards, the petals are all very smoothly shaded and there is some nice subtle illumination of the display too.

Xalthorn
Tree Thing

Xalthorn gives us a last-minute entry to the comp, just making it in time! In this nice intro you can watch a tree take shape, first the trunk is constructed, this then progressivly splits into more and more branches as it moves upwards, finally some alien looking flowers bloom at the end of the thinnest brances. During all of this there is a very smooth plasma happening behind the tree.
