Title: [IMAGE PROCESSING] Kapteeni Tulevaisuudessa
Post by: padman on July 18, 2011
First! ;D

Ok, here you go guys. This is my entry. It's called Kapteeni Tulevaisuudessa . It's sort of a tribute to Captain Future (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Future), a TV series of the late 70s. If you don't recognize it, the music is the German title theme ( the best one imho!). As far as I know it had different title tunes depending on the country. By default Autoplay is on, so it will switch through 3 image processing modes on it's own. The image effects are applied by the program. If you don't believe it, feel free to unpack it, you'll only find 4 colored pictures (ship, font, small font and Padman logo) in it... ;)
For Win7 64 (and all others with problems running the exe) users, I have included a file called "fix.cmd". It'll let you run the exe in 16bit mode instead of 24 bit mode. In another thread this -oddly enough- fixed some crashes. Please only use it, if you are having difficulties. Thanks!

Enjoy!

Looks really cool Padman! The blur effect makes it look 3D, which is really nice. I love the music too :)

Had some trouble getting F1-F4 working. Not sure if it's a delay thing, but it seems to take a while to respond to those keys (if at all).  I'm running it in windowed mode on Win7 x64. Launching with the fix.cmd file didn't seem to make a difference. All other keys work fine and instantly too.

Thanks mate! :)

Hmm, if they don't respond at all, then Autoplay is probably still on! You gotta turn it off first with F9. Maybe (hopefully) the delay in response was only due to the autoplay changing the effects ;)

Well done Padman   :D
Works fine here.

[PS] For people with AVAST anti-virus: Don't be scared, it's a false positive! (I hope so  ;))

@Shockwave: *giggles*

@rbz & Jace: Thanks guys :) ( and LOL @ Avast for finding even a UPX packed file suspicious.  :whack: )

I can't run this at work - our anti-virus deletes it on sight >:(

I'll try it at home.

Ok, because of circumstances ( this thread has been even reported to the mod team ):

This file DOES NOT contain any sort of virus! It's only UPX packed. It's the crappy heuristics of some AVs which cause these problems.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I assure you all that it is 100% virus free. And I should know, I've coded it.  ::) And btw my AV doesn't complain about it...

I finally got a few spare minutes at home (but that's for a different thread), and I was able to run this entry after turning off my AV.

Avast! can be a little paranoid, so much so that I have to turn it off when running any RAM intensive games, but I think there is a different issue here.

Onto the entry itself - I'm impressed with the range of effects, and the music seems to fit the graphical theme nicely. If there were only going to be 2 entries, I think mine would come second to this :o I just need to get it finished.

My only criticism is the text, which I find difficult to read when some of the effects are applied. Other than that, this is excellent.

Thanks mate! :)

And for the text: I think there's enough options to fiddle with to make it readable. I'd suggest to turn off Autoplay, switch to standard mode, turn off scroller trails and TV scanlines.  ;D (Ok, it's a bit laborious, I give you that...  ;))

The startup effect reminds me of those magic motion cards from our childhoods. And the edge detection looked almost like chalkboard, Kudos for using an exe icon of a bog roll and k++ for the false positive (great to see packers being used for non size constrained compo). This entry rocks partly for the right reasons and partly for the wrong ones.

Heh, thank you.  :)

Dunno, I always use UPX on my stuff, no need for it really, you are right about that. But hey it's only UPX(!), blame the crap AV and not me.  :P Someone should try Avast! on the unpacked exe. If it gets another false positive, I want an extra K+!  ;)

I wouldn't worry bout it too much I recently sent a standard Hello World MessageBox (exe and fasm source file included) to Avira demanding to know exactly why it raised a false positive. They told me they would look into it. Had to ditch that damn AV it was messing with my me time.

Yeah Avira's a bitch and actually worth an extra rant thread.  :whack: It doesn't like about 50 percent of my Purebasic programs. PB uses FASM to compile too... At least they told you, they'd look into it. I only got the offer to upgrade to the full version. Feckers.

Haha, thanks very much. K++  ;D It seems that Avast! sticks to its principles at least...

WOW great effects, you have something that looks vector at one point, then it goes to old black and white and then you can see modern color.
A very nice tribute to the era. I like the ship and indeed it does look a bit 3D at times due to the blurring.

yeahh AVAST claims trojan.. but malware say it's safe. Very nice demo to watch. Classic effects greyscale, inverted colors etc. Nice to see it in real-time. Good theme and music, it looks great. Good work
