Title: [SPOOKY] Creepy Cubes v1.2
Post by: combatking0 on October 26, 2012
I present my entry to the 2012 Halloween competition - Creepy Cubes!

It's so low-res that I couldn't fit a scroller onto it, so details and greetings are in the readme file.

I hope you enjoy it. Please run it in a recent version of FireFox, Chrome, Opera or Safari.

Can you recognise all 8 images? You may want to stand well back from your monitor.

(edit) - patched a FireFox bug in which the music failed to loop.

(edit 2) - added a scroller and a z-depth wave which I wanted to add the first time round, but feared I would run out of time to to family issues which have since been resolved faster than expected. The scroller is so low res that I have left the scroller message in the ReadMe.txt file if you want to read it faster.

You may want to press F11 to run this demo in full screen mode.

Really cool entry. Like it a lot. Cool that you even support sound (sometimes not that easy in browsers). And cool that it runs in a browser (love that).

As jace_stknights just that - it would also fit into [CUBE] and/or [TRANSITION] challenge.

Awesome.

I like the way how the pics fade into another.
And I like the Pixelart and music too.

Good Entry  Brother

Excellent stuff CK, runs nice and smooth too! :)

It was surprising to see js was that much faster drawing the cubes!

Nice effect. Nice music.

p.s. I was lost a bit at first how the archive was over 2MBs and I was only seeing two very very small files.
Of course the rest was hidden, but first time I looked into the archive with total commander and copied those to another directory and of course it didn't work. Then I just extracted it with winzip and voila.

Interesting js cubes, a text scroller using this effect would be really nice :)

I reckon I could push the resolution up to 20*23 and not lose too much speed...

+1 for the text scroller that would be awesome! :)

The scroller is now up, along with a spooky z-depth warping effect.

Same here. I thought it was an error by TotalCommander and used WinRar instead which worked way better.

@CK0: Whats so special about the music files ;-)

According to W3Schools (http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_audio.asp), the Audio tag functions with different audio file types, depending on the browser.

.mp3 files should work with IE9, Chrome and Safari.
.ogg files should work with FireFox, Chrome and Opera.

In a nut-shell, the audio files are there for cross-browser compatability.

However, I have yet to see the Audio tag working in IE9 at all. Perhaps I'm missing an update.

Yeah, but do you know why there are not visible when depacking them with TotalCommander?

I was trying to make people run the .htm file by making it one of the few things visible.

Yep have to do this also for "OldSchool Never dies"...

Hum by the way, this is not "Shadows of the beast" music ???

It's not the original, but it's a homage from the Mega Drive / Genesis port of Lemmings, specifically the level titled "A Beast of a Level".

Looked great before, now it looks really great!

I love the scroller and the new wave effect. I'm a total sucker for cubes, so this is a real winner for me. Really nice work CK :)

Thanks guys.

It was fun coding the 2D sine wave - which was really just 2 separate waves at different frequencies applied to either the X or Y axis.

My second favourite compo entry ever by you CK (I like digital watch brawl a tiny bit more).

I really love the cube scroller here and thinking about it, Shadow Of The Beast music was pretty spooky.  Nice job!
