Congrats rain_storm, have a good birthday!

Phenomenal challenge everybody! ;D

Seriously though... :)

Thanks all, I'm really happy I got something done. :)

This entry is quite badly hacked in parts, I'm not very familiar with coding 3d and I still haven't figured out how to properly wrap in 3d (detecting the view boundary instead of any virtual box boundary). It wasn't running as fast as I'd like, so I cheated a bit and set the quality to low. You can change this in the flash player if your pc can handle it, but the difference isn't staggering.

After deciding I liked padmans lightning better I think I'm going to tweak the lightning bolts a bit. If I got something I'll post the results after the challenge.

Thanks all! :)

Wish I could've spend a bit more time on it. I pretty much gave up all hope to enter this compo because I lacked Mojo all month, I actually thought I missed the deadline twice (my memory is terrible, it doesn't do date and times). But when I finally started a desperate last attempt to enter something, it kind of worked and now I got tons of improvements which I can't implement on time.

Really nice Kirl, I love it! I love the Enya music too, it probably sounds a bit too colorful for Padman though ;)
lol, enya wasn't available in black and white.  :D

Seriously though, I didn't have any fitting tunes on my HD and was happy I thought of enya in time. I think it goes really well with it, but it is a bit of a risky choice.

General chat / Re: Non-Working Downloads
« on: November 13, 2011 »
I thought it might've been an issue with MIME types. I once had something similar when trying to download a little test app I wrote for mobile phone from my site, it kept comming out as a .rar while the extension I uploaded was something else entirely (forgot what it was actually). My provider eventually fixed it for me by enabling this particukar extension.

I just discovered I forgot to loop the music in my own entry as well... :D

Very cool concept Optimus, I'd love to see a fleshed out verion of this as well! :)

Cool entry!

Cool demo Hotshot, great tune and I love the little UFO! ;D

Music didn't loop but stopped halfway through the scroller, not sure if that was intended?

Challenges & Competitions / [PHENOMENA] Lucy's diamonds
« on: November 12, 2011 »
Hello all,

Here's my compo entry, started only 2 days ago so there's lots of bugs and wrinkles left in.
All things considered I'm happy with the result, but be gentle...

The clouds are generated by semi-randomly rotating and scaling a single puff of smoke. For the flashes I pick a random puff from a random cloud, make a slightly larger copy of it in the same location, change the color to a nice purple and finally set it's blendmode to addititve. Then it's faded out and removed. The lightning bolts are just a bit of semi-random scribbling.

I had to attach the swf to this post as a download because I haven't got my site passwords around... Which is probably good pratice anyway, but I would've prefered to provide 1-click acces as well for us lazy web surfers. ;)

Controlls
------
Ctrl = toggle auto/manual steering (with mouse)
Up/Down arrow = change speed (only on manual steering)
Space = toggle wheather
Enter = Teh Awesome! ;)

[EDIT] I did some tweaking after the comp deadline, see the new version here!

Very cool effect!

A random banter scroller would've been good with this.  :)

Cool to see a HTML/JS Demo and very well done!

That was great jim, I have always been interested in CG hair/fur as it's a difficult thing to achieve even with CGI software.
Well done!

513
That was excellent!

Fantastic visuals and music, cool coop project guys!

General chat / Re: GTA:San Andreas PS 2 Vs GTA 5 PS 3
« on: November 07, 2011 »
lol, that sounds like a pretty acurate prediction slinks!  ;D

I really hope some of these new motion games will explore head tracking (Example) so the perspective changes acordingly when you move. More like looking through a window, instead of at a screen. I'm not so much for the idea of actually acting out all in-game actions like a monkey though, that will just have to wait until GTA Holodeck IMO, I do love all the new motion tech though.

515
Yeah, the effect works really well actually!   O0

A few shifting colors and it would be pretty close to the real thing!

Awesome style again padman, the bloke in the foreground reminds me of the main character from Discworld Noire.
Cool FX and I really dig the scroller!

I really enjoyed the browser intro and the ASD seminar!  :updance:

If there are two paths for a current to follow, and one path has 1/9 the resistance of the other path, then 90% of the current will flow along the path of least resistance, and the remaining 10% will flow along the path of most resistance
Thanks for the correction, but that doesn't really change anything. Point is the behaviour of the entire system can be predicted with 100% acuracy, how does free will figure into that?

It remains a difficult subject...  :-\

Same here, totally awesome remix dude!

Meaby we should idolise the inventions instead of the inventors. This is a slightly unpopular view perhaps (in my own opinion as well) but I'm honestly starting to doubt free will exists at all...

I mean all systems that make up our thought are well acounted for, biochemistry, electricity etc. These systems behave in a predictably similar way, every time. An electric charge (in our brain for example) always follows the way of least resistance, a chemical substance (in our body for example) always behaves the same in the context of other chemicals. There really is no room for free will within these systems at all. Our last hope might hide somewhere at sub-molecular level...

This reminds me of Waking Life, a highly philosophical movie about consiousness. It's rotoscoped nature might bring about some motion sickness but makes for some fantasic effects as well. It's quite slow at times, but 2nd to none in terms of food for thought... Touches on many of the most fascinating subjects regarding consiousness.

You can view it entirely on Google videos, the bit that concerns free will can be found at 27:25.
