Hello!
I hail from Oregon, USA.  I used to program for an internet bookstore when I was in college 10 years ago.  Mainly just in C and I considered it hack code just to make it work.  I watched the movie Indie Game and it inspired me to potentially re-learn to program again.  C++ or C#, but not sure quite yet.  The XNA/XBOX stuff looks interesting.

welcome!

i'm a full time c/c++ dev in the windows commercial world, have been since the mid 90s.

i watched the indie game movie over xmas, it might have something to do with my sorting my act out a bit again too!

how much of an outlay is there for xbox dev?

i'm going the 'opengl es' route as its used on all mobile platforms cross android and apple (iphone/ipad) and is a subset of full gl on windows, and will also run on the newly announced "steam box". i'm using (free) mali sdk and emulator on windows to develop, so i've not built for any actual native hardware yet (not really intending to in the short term)

i did some native direct draw stuff in the past, but the microsoft stuff always seems to change a lot, with gl at least i'm confident it won't as i can still use (and buy for reference if i'm careful) books that are 10+ years old!

Hi,
I'm a coder from England. I mainly work on websites and video streaming, but as I hobby I've always liked to tinker around with game coding. I mainly registered to download a VS extension that Google found on this board, but in fact I've been a long-time fan of the demo scene since the early 90's when I started encountering my first ones on the covertapes of ZX Spectrum magazines. And I've messed around with a whole load of effects programming over the years (projects too numerous to mention, unfortunately I'm bad at actually finishing things off so nothing I can link to right now, but I do have this half-finished game that I really need to complete at some point, unfortunately it was in XNA which doesn't seem to exist anymore at least not for VS2012!) So this seems like a nice forum and hopefully I'll stick around!

Pete

Hi All,

Quick post to introduce myself. I'm a Gen X that grew up with classic Commodore machines (C64 and Amiga).  I was involved in the art scene (ANSI and pixel) and ran a popular BBS for locals in my area. I program in Java now. In days gone buy it was C and x86 Assembler. I recently setup WinUAE to relive the adventure. I've always been interested in understanding what makes demo's tick. Naturally seeing it again has tweaked my interest and I've decided to get into it a bit deeper.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt, nice introduction, welcome to DBF. I do miss the BBS days :)

Oh yeah ... I was a SysOp myself, too. I ran several BBSs and one of them was even self-coded.

Was a lot of fun...
