[LED] Winter Billboard
« on: December 16, 2008 »
I didn't get as much time to work on this as I had hoped so it's as finished as it's going to be by the challenge deadline.

No more free time until January! Ouch ;)

Hope you like it :)

Funny contrast between the dark & icy colours and the happy chiptune and bouncing letters ;D
I totally love the closeups
The tune sounds somehow familiar, who made it?

Ah, now I am smiling, When I saw your reply I was thinking maybe you'd say that the colours needed a tweak :) I must be learning slowly.

The tune is by my wonderful friend Ampli.

It was used on a s!p music disk coded by Zaxe. Ampli will tell you (to his infuriation) that I totally love that song, I think it's the best tune he has ever written, even though his newer songs are great too I think that it's hard to top that chip tune.

XM attached :)

The weight of the snow is just right.  The led effect is good too, but the scroller is too infuriating to read!

Very cool entry !  :goodpost:

But I must admit the scroller may be hard to read in some angles, and my eyes were a bit painful at the end (because of the quick moving letters).

Anyway, it stays an awesome entry !

Cheers and thanks for the greeting  ;D

nice one.. small problem here.. (possible its my hardware?)... when the greetz started the screen was frozen while music was playing... i thought its crashed end pressed ESC some times.. after 3-5 seconds the demo continued without problems (scroller position was ++ in the meanwhile ^^)...

Btw, many thanks for greetings  :kewl:

Aww, thanks folks! I am glad you like it :)

That has just made me even happier, I'll confidently say that something was updating or doing something on your hardware and not giving anything to the intro, the scroll was ++ when you came back to it because I have delta timed every aspect of it so that it runs at the same rate on all compatible computers.

I'd like to make the matrix bigger and do more stuff with it, hopefully in January I will. Ampli and I are planning some effects for this, I'm going to take the idea, re-code it with a few scenes and release it as a 40kb for Codigos. :)
The good news is that the Codigos version will even have a Sid song.

I used glscale to invert the matrix, reversed the winding order, rendered everything upside down and then drew the chessfloor with  glblend enabled :)
