20 SECONDS "to save the Earth!"
« on: March 13, 2007 »
Because I couldnt get my head around the rigid body stuff, I decided to make a game for the compo!

The game is simple, kill as many ufos as you can in 20s

All you need to so is use the mouse to aim, and click to fire.
Its not as easy as it seams because you dont get a crosshair!

The game will output your score to the Score.txt file.
It will keep adding to this file the more times you play.

Your score is based on the number of kills and efficiency.
Your efficiency is based on the number of kills vs shoots fired.

Heres a sample of a bad score :P

--------------------- 13 Mar 2007 - 05:48:43
Ships Killed : 12
Shoots Fired : 20
  Efficiency : 60.0%
       Score : 1800
--------------------------------------------

I wanted to spend more time on it but i've already spent pretty much the best part of 20hrs so I will leave as is for now. I want to make the explosions nicer, but mite do that again after some sleep X-)

I havent supplied the code this time because it looks worse than my bedroom ^^ but if someone really wants it or want to know about anything in it just let me know and I'll either clean it up or post the relevant stuff.

Hope you enjoy it.

That is awesome. I hope you put out a longer version after the compo. Twenty seconds isn't enough. :)

Wow. Very good. The ufo-modells are outstanding. The particle fx when the wing is
touching water is very cool. Nice game !!! Well done!

Thanks everyone glad you like it :)

The Ufo models are actuall the free samples you get with blitz, and the ship you fly I made in 3DS Max. I would have spend the time to make the ufos buts the ship I did make took about an hour and half to build and texture >.<

I tired to put a lot of detail into it. If your graphics card suppors enviroment mapping then the ship you fly will actually reflect the things around it such as the Ufos if you fly near them. It also has 3 layers of tectures, the enviroment, the sphere map and the actual texture.
If you shoot the water you get steam and the ufos them selfs are enviroment mapped, but they dont update in realtime. The sea is flat because I wanted a decent looking reflection and I couldnt figure out a fast way yet to have waves with reflectoin.

I mite make a longer version, but If I do I will probably change a lot and let you move up and down and crash into the sea and get shoot back and stuff like that.

Its definitely got potential to be worked into a full game :)

If you do that do you think you could add a crosshair over the point you are firing to? Might help my crap aiming  ;D

Tnx Clyde, not sure if you read the readme ;)

You can delete settings.dat everytime you want to hear the music. I did that way for my own sake, hearing the same 20s of music over and over :telloff:

I did have a cross hair, but took it out to make it more of a challenge :D

Interesting post on devmaster. However, what do they mean with

Are they looking forward to FLASH / SHOCKWAVE games or Win32 application
with online highscore ?

@Tetra:
Anyway, give it a go. Would be really interesting to know ...

indeed its interesting, but I would imagin it does mean flash or even java because it sounds like they want what this forum arcade has. I would imagin if they are willing to invest such money into ot then they are after some sort of resale to websites or even mobile phones.

I know too little about flash and java apps to make games with them, not to mention the lack of experience making games :D

Damn you Tetra!!! I'm obsessed with the idea that it's possible to kill all the enimies within 20 seconds, perhaps this game will make it impossible for me to finish an entry for this competition because of that... ;D

--------------------- 14 Mar 2007 - 21:56:30
Ships Killed : 17
Shoots Fired : 36
  Efficiency : 47.22%
       Score : 2007

I will atleast get 20 kills before I give up, one kill each second must be possible! :D

Great game!

Tnx ekoli, glad you like it, but stop playing it and finish your entry :P

There are 30 emeny ships so it will be pretty impossible to kill them all :)

but 20 is doable, and if you score that then I will give you 2 karma for your effort  ;D
