Saw something like that on Discovery Health the other night.  The woman weighed over 625lb and went in to hospital to get her stomach stapled.  They had to cut through 9inches of fat to get there and then stapled her stomach to hold only 1oz of food.  The wound stayed open in places for 6-12months while it healed.  Absolutely foul.  Then she started crash losing weight and ended up with malnutrition and they had to feed her through a nose tube.

Apparently these people are often malnourished because to maintain thier bodies they need a lot of calories and they get low quality calories like fast food etc.. Some of these people are really ill, really really ill. I feel sorry for them :(

Why the fuck do they have to exploit people who are seriously ill like this by making a television programme about them?

I find it hard to feel sorry for them at times when you imagine how many pies it takes to shove into your face to make you that fat.
And then you see how desperately unhappy they are and it's difficult to imagine what they're going through.
The docos don't want to show that - they just want to say 'look at this fat bastard.  how the fuck fat is that?'

Here is the US there are several TV shows that have obese people compete to lose weight. Only us Americans would make a game show out of a disease.

Its not easy for some people who suffer from forms of depression; who's only real comfort is to eat.
These programs probably don't show that side. But then again some people are generally lazy.

I'm sure that when they ate thier first pie or plate of chips that they didn't want to end up fat like that. I think people can become addicted to eating in exactly the same way as they can to drinking, like Clyde says it can be a comfort thing.. They know what the food is doing to them though so it must be laced with all sorts of guilt, like smoking.

We all know of people who have smoked and suffered ill health because of it.. The ill health creeps up on them gradually. It's a subtle trap like over eating.
I'm sure that when you smoked your first cigarette for instance that you began coughing up blood, you'd stop straight away.. Just like if you ate a pie and suddenly put on a stone in weight you'd stop..

Like all addictions this shit can creep up on you.
I felt really bad about that program and the people in it. I've been addicted to cigarettes myself and it's only when I discovered how the addiction worked that I could really break the drug addiction (smoking is not a habit, if you smoke you are a drug addict and brainwashed by clever marketting and government health warnings! Yes, I believe that government health warnings help to keep people hooked).

I hope that some of those guys on the program last night can get thier weight under control, it was killing them ffs.
