Hey all,

I have just started to learn C/C++ and I was wondering if one of you kind/elite souls here on the forums could give me some basic Demo-Specific C/C++ tutorials.

I am interested in learning opengl and/or directx.  It would be really neat if anyone could write some really basic tutorials on scrollers or cool oldschool demo/intro stuff.

Thanks a lot guys,
donvito

P.S. I could/have used google of course, but I think it would be cool if I could be in communication with you guys on the forums here, to show progress/ask for help :D

As you had already used freebasic I think (making a crosshair) there is a great set up code for Opengl in Freebasic (I've used it here ; http://www.intro-inferno.com/production.php?id=6059 ).

If you want to go down that route then I know that this topic;

http://dbfinteractive.com/index.php?topic=2821.0

Can give you a nice start :)

I know the owners of this board will like you to post as many questions as you can so don't feel bad about being new.

What widowmaker says.

As soon as you have a basic code skelett that opens and
initiates OpenGL/DirectX - feel free to post specific questions
of what you want to code / which fx.

I guess a lot of ppl here can help you.

Otherwise, there are a lot of good tutorials in the net - even
if the writer of the tutorial is not a registered user here - we
can also chat about an external tutorial!

I bought two books following a reccomendation from Taj.

Openglsuperbible

and the red book :)

I reccommend both of those.

Also the posts Widowmaker linked you to are perfect to get you started :)

Any questions you have, you'll find a huge amount of help available here too. Lots of us use Opengl.

Another place that I have used in the past for tutorials on OpenGL and C++ is the following link.

http://nehe.gamedev.net/   :whisper:

If it is not allowed to show this link then I sincerely apologise and remove it asap.

I think that Freebasic has a lot of the nehe tutorials already converted, if you hunt around in the examples that are included then you will find them.

Maybe a good starting point for you would be to get some opengl cubes spinning around.
