Nice to see you are doing more tiny stuff :)

My only complain is that it should scroll from "top left" to "bottom right" to look more like a rain

Sorry bout that Mike. You arent really missing much tho. Its a shame that VGA standards are being dropped it saves a whole lotta work, I have a plan to fix this issue I have started learning the VESA stadards and hope to do my next release using 16 bpp colour depth. I am fairly certain that most cards on the market support VESA and will continue doing so for some time to come. It will be difficult to make a tiny VESA demo (say 256 bytes) that will set up the correct video mode but I will just go for the modes that are garaunteed to be present, 640*480 16bpp.

Where is that compatibility-issue with mode13 coming from?

Many (most?) modern gfx cards no longer support standard mode 13h. So far as I have not yet seen any Vista system running anything in mode 13h. I dont have vista myself but I think I read somewhere that Vista will only emulate text mode DOS com files I could be wrong here it could simply be that the graphics cards that run on Vista do not run in mode 13h.

That's not the case. My two Geforces (7600 & 8600) and my Radeon do mode13 perfectly (on Windows XP and a CRT Screen).

The Vista problem comes from the fact that Vista doesn't have the 16bit backwards compatibility mode that XP and below have.  It's nothing to do with the gfx card, it's just that it can only run 32bit Win32 apps.  IMHO, this is a good thing, unless you're a demo coder :)

It was bound to happen eventually. That means that even using Vesa these Dos files still wont run on Vista.

As you've discovered, Vista can run some 16bit stuff, but not as much as XP.  I'm trying to find a list of what was removed.

Thanks Jim if you find something could you share the link

I know that there are at least some interrupts and reading ports that still work. But I doubt that all of them still work a good reference would be useful
