[PLANTLIFE] GrassVeins
« on: July 04, 2008 »
Hi,

here is my little entry for this cool competition. It's called
GrassVein and shows some growing grass on some
dirty background.

Requires an InternetBrowser with an installed Java1.6! Hope
all of you have installed the latest JavaVersion.

Check it out here :

http://labs.weltenkonstrukteur.de/grassveins

Because I am very late and the deadline is near - there are
some bugs left and some functions which I actually wanted
to implement are missing  :-\

Anyway, thanks to shockwave for this very interesting
competition - I found a lot of cool things on the net while
googling around and searching for inspirations!

Nice one!

For the music it's a remake of the intro tune for the game Goldrunner, originally compised by Rob Hubbard. Very few people love it, I adore it!

However I do not know the author of the version you have used
We once had a passion
It all seemed so right
So young and so eager
No end in sight
But now we are prisoners
In our own hearts
Nothing seems real
It's all torn apart

Excellent demo Benny  ;D Really cool and great idea to do something like this, the longer you leave this run the better it looks. This fits in perfectly with the plant life theme. Great music too. I look at this and somehow I am thinking of the www and the signal bouncing from server to server looking for some information. Maybe I have been watching it too long. Oh and btw the deadline is midnight saturday night just incase you were thinking it was tonight

@Shocky:
Thanks mate.

@Stormbringer:
Thanks for the additional info. I love this tune, too. Unfortunately
I was not able to find out the author of this version though.
The actual modfile is located here:
http://labs.weltenkonstrukteur.de/popup/GrassVeins/data/ldrunner.mod
If someone find out the name of the author I would be happy to
add him to the credits.

Thanks rain_storm. Indeed it also somehow looks like a net and this is actually a
nice idea of data visualization - like visualizing a trace-route of a ping.
About the deadline - yup, you are right. Actually some hours are left - but today
I have no time left to work on this - that's why my personal deadline was yester-
day midnight ;-)

Very nicely done.  The 'dirty' background really adds something to it, as does the gentle scrolling to keep up with the root.

It's also very watchable, very.... mesmerising :)

Very nice job!

I like how it has sort of a painted effect. Looks very natural too.

Im sure it's wicked, but for some reason it keeps making IE not work. Any cures?

Cheers,
Clyde.

@Shocky:
Thanks for K, man!

@Clyde, dude:

Hmm ... do you have the latest Java RTE installed and enabled ? It
requires at least JRE1.6 (have a look in IE unter EXTRAS-> Sun Java
Console
. I have no problems running it in IE.

Or check your java rte here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

If it is enable, please post the ERROR/Exception which the Java Console
says (if any).

@all:
Any others which cannot get this applet to work ?

Thanks Benny, I had to install a newer version of Java.
And as I thought, it is wicked. Welldone dude, nice tune too.

Cheers and all the very best,
Clyde.

I couldn't get this working in IE7. I'll try FF2...
...not working in there either. I'll try installing the latest version of Java...
...silly me - I didn't have it installed at all! Just a minute...
