Yellowdog on PS3

Stonemonkey:

Hello all, I've been pretty much offline for a while due to some PC troubles and the PS3 browser isn't really up to much. I've got my laptop sorted out now but this is my first post from the PS3 running linux  :updance:

Compared to what I'd read before it seems fairly easy to set up now, to get this far and having never used linux before it took less than a day to prepare the PS3 and download and install yellowdog 6.2 and all with no hiccups at all.

I downloaded from

http://mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog/iso/

and got yellowdog-6.2-ppc-DVD_20090629.iso  (3.8Gb) and burned that to DVD
Then followed the instructions from

http://us.fixstars.com/support/installation/ydl6.2_ps3_guide.pdf

To prepare the PS3 I backed up the original 40Gb HD to a portable drive and replaced it with a 160Gb HD which I partitioned and formatted then restored the backup, then installed linux. Once it was installed and running I set up my wireless network connection in the settings and re-started.

I was expecting some problems but it really couldn't have been any easier, now to work out my way around linux.

Cheers, Fryer.

Did your desktop die in the end then?

Also how does this theme look on the PS3, is it all working ok?

Stonemonkey:
It didn't exactly die, it's in a state of disrepair but is mostly salvagable. I see no problems at all with the browser so far and everything looks fine as far as i can tell with the forums, using firefox.

good.. i fear my desktop is ready to give up the ghost... blue screens of death happen quite a lot nowadays.

I'm running Yellowdog on my ODW; pretty neat.
