TINYC5 voting
« on: December 26, 2011 »
Tiny C5 Challenge Voting Open!!!

For those of us who've been here a few years, you'll know that this is our second ever Javascript based competition.  The first one didn't get many entries which was a bit of a shame but it's good to see that this time we have 7 entries for this challenge which shows the spirit of the forum and the support for Benny and his new TinyC5library.

I'm sure that he is very happy that he has 7 more great examples to include with it, I'm very proud that the forum has got behind it in this way, especially as Benny has been here from practically day 1 and contributed so much to the forum!

It's also really good to see people trying Javascript and HTML5 for the first time and broadening their knowledge by making something  with new technologies.

Please pick your three favourites, they are great demos and you really should look at them all before you vote, the entrants deserve it!

A small word about the sponsorship.  The cash prizes are made possible by the generosity of the people who donated to the treasury.  Even though it is very generous to abdicate from taking your cash prize if you win, please do take it.

To keep things fair, here are the rules for voting and votes are checked by administrators.

Voting rules:

  • Please vote for 3 entries, you MUST vote for 3, not 2 or 1.
  • If you do not vote for 3 entris your vote will be removed.
  • Please do not vote for yourself or you will be disqualified.
  • Voting is open for 6 days from now.
  • In the event of a tie break, there will be a vote-off.
  • Please view all the entries before voting.

Good luck everyone!

Benny opened the batting with a greetings intro.  The intro contains TV interference, and some greetings to DBF forum members using thier avatars - all synched to the beat of that classic cractro tune "Introfronty"

Description :

Combatking shows us his Javascript skills here with a proceduraly animated wireframe spider.  Spidey walks accross the screen with a ghostly green motion blur while a very smooth scroller notifies us of the greetings and some spider factoids!

Entry Name: Plawesoma
Author : Kirl

  Topic

Description :

A tastefully coloured oldschool plasma here, it's well optimised and runs smoothly but there are more goodies on offer here as you can alter the plasma pattern by moving the mouse around and a large sine scroll runs above the plasma.  Good stuff from Kirl again who is proving to be very consistent with another quality entry.

Entry Name: Cra5tastic
Author : Optimus

  Topic

Description :

Optimus always brings something cool whenever he enters a DBF competition and after just two hours tinkering with TinyC5, he came up with a really nice variation on plasma.  The top and bottom halves of the screen are each filled with a perspective mapped plasma with some sine dots over the top.

Congratulations :

Jace_stknights For 1st Place
Benny! for 2nd Place!
Jim for 3rd Place!

Prizes, Sigs, Karma and Showcase will all be sorted out first thing in the morning!

Well done to all the entries, it was perhaps predictable that Jace would win it but 2nd and 3rd were really hotly contested!

Thank you all for the votes!!! I am really happy to win the first place for my first entry in DBF Challenge!  :updance:

And a big bravo to all the other people who participated to this contest : Benny, CombatKing, Shockwave, Jim, Kirl and Optimus!

It would have been cool if we were not all all around the world to celebrate it around some beers!

I hope to be as productive as I was here in the next challenge!

Awesome work and congrats Jace, benny! and jim!

Following the last days of voting was really suspensefull, at one point 2nd and 3rd place were both tied! Me and CK got pushed out at the last minute...   :(

I tried to get in there with a not-so-oldskool effect, but I was destroyed.

I salute Jace, Benny and Jim.

Everyone created enjoyable entries.
Awesome work and congrats Jace, benny! and jim!

In thought I was guarenteed at least 3rd place this time, but my ability to create a line drawing subroutine just wasn't enough. Plasma > Lines though.

I wouldn't say you were destroyed CK, it was very close and most of the entries were very closely matched :)

Wow ... did not expect to be 2nd - hope everyone is fine with the fact that I entered the competition. Congratz to all who entered!!!

I want to thank all of you for holding and supporting this competition. It was so exciting and cool to see that people are actually using TinyC5 to create some cool effects with javascript. All your feedback and work is of great value for me - and your suggestions will be implemented in upcoming versions of TinyC5.

Plus, I will soon update the showcase of the library and link your productions to it! Thanks a lot for that, too!

@CKO:
Man, you did an amazing job with your entry. I really like it and I have to say that I voted for it. Showing an animated wireframe model is not that easy esp. if all you  have is just  a pixelbuffer without any handy line drawing stuff etc. So please, don't be discouraged by the 4th place!

@Shocky:
Thanks for giving away the sigs, karma etc so fast

Acording to democratic vote Plasma = Lines. :D

The biggest win is the cool new techniques picked up along the way though, like your line drawing and a plasma for me was like the epitome of visual effects, I think it was one of the main effects that got me interested in visual effects/programming/computers when seeing screensavers on a bunch of huge screens (I miss screensavers). I'm still really chuffed I pulled it off as you'll notice.  :)

Sorry, it was perhaps a very vivid figure of speech. "Defeated" may have been a better word. :D

There's always another battle - which is 0.75 of the fun.

I'll keep trying to find new ways to make wireframes interesting.
