Windows 8 Metro App Coding [HTML, CSS, JS]
« on: September 13, 2012 »
I've been contemplating switching back to HTML, CSS and JS so that I can code apps for Windows 8.

There's been a lot of talk on the internets about how dumbed down the new interface is. I've tried out one of the preview releases, and it feels like I'm using a V-Tech toy.

But, if that's where the future is, then I can try coding for it, and possibly resurrect some of my iPhone ideas which were dropped because I had to hand the dev-kit back to it's owner before I could learn the language.

Does anybody else have plans for Win8 coding?

Nope, i am actually trying to switch to linux, microsoft is trying to commercial suicide. Windows has changed, there is a probability that people would actually get along with it, i haven't saw all the specifications about how this would change the programmer life, but reading what you wrote about HTML CSS and JS for windows applications... Linux here we gooo!

I will definately have a an eye on that. Although I am more interested in general HTML5 coding targetting multiple primarily mobile devices. So I am also curious how the new Windows phones will turn out..

The new interface looks terrible as a work environment... I have been very interested in HTML 5 but despite several explorations I still haven't gotten into the action quite yet.

Could you program apps in Visual Studio?

I don't know what to make of Windows 8. I don't like the idea of touching the screen to access something. I'm always telling the kids off for it at the moment.

I've never been a massive fan of mobile phones, as I don't like how they've changed the way people behave, the world seems to stop when someone calls you. Soon Baby's will be born with an iPhone, twins probably with an iPad.

Perhaps it's because I could never afford to run or own one of them apple thangs!
To me a mobile phone is a device you'd use in an emergency when your car broke down, or you lost you folks out shopping.

If you can use W8 like traditional pervious versions, then it might be something to consider.

Maybe I'm getting too old! :D

Yep, you can still code W8 apps in visual studio. C#, VB, etc.

Use JavaScript with HTML5 and Cascading Style to create Windows Store apps.
