New Intro From DBF
Here's a screen shot;
It's all software rendered using tinypct, you can get the intro here;
www.dbfinteractive.com/demos/dbfcrack.zip (http://www.dbfinteractive.com/demos/dbfcrack.zip) (195kb)
If you want the source code, I've attached it to this post though you'd be well advised not to read it because it's my first project in FB! Already I would re-code nearly all of it, I'm just glad to have it finished.
Coded by Shockwave
GFX by Wham
Music by Jpn/level4+roly
I will start to spread this around the other communities tomorrow which is the proper release date. Hopefully it will bring in some more people O0

The next one will be better!

Dont forget Qbasic News and FB Net, there's alot of people who admire gfx demos.

I will be posting it there, thanks.
And cheers for the link in the Kryton showcase over at CW :)

Give us a knock when it goes up, Shock.
Edit: ah, I see you already have. ;)
-
Yep, it's up over there I did it before I left to pick up the new dog.
Also it's released over at coders workshop and FB.net too.
It's not getting too frosty a reception over there at the moment but that can change, some of the comments are valid, the triangle rasteriser has a couple of bugs and the refresh rate could be better, still it was more of an excercise in practice really and the next project could be better.
I'm most probably going to be concentrating on Dazza and Codies text writer project and the tunnel challenge over the next couple of weeks and then I'll see about making another better prod.
Maybe something with fractals. Dunno yet :)
-
Here's a freebasic site, you might not of known about.

-
The intro isn't fairing too bad at all for Pouet.
I usually have complete disrespect for most comments on there as there's too much obcession with filesize and coding language instead of actually looking at what the prod is trying to achieve and how it looks. :-X
-
Pouet users sux big time , ive seen people get thumbs up from the screen shots just because its Hitchhker.
Hes a good coder but they didnt even check the intro and 1 in particular wasnt that great ....
People using blitz , or any other basic package get thumb down no matter what goes into the intro/demo
waste of time going on pouet
Why dont you set up a new pouet type site for our kinda people :P lol
-
What you get at Pouet is expected.... :-X some will trash anything, some will give constructive critique, others will appreciate it for what it is. It's a mixed bag. The ones the burn my ass are those that don't code but are professional critics it seems. ;D
-
The ones the burn my ass are those that don't code but are professional critics it seems.
That's the point, some are professional critics and never do anything, just flame other people ! They are evil >:D
-
I find the whole excersise a pretty funny experience myself, in fact I sort of look forward to a good flame grilling.
But if I am honest, looking back on the stuff that we've released over there it hasn't done too badly and overall apart from the said professional lamers who just crit and don't make anything I think that most prods get what they deserve.
Thing is that over here, we appreciate the work we put into our prods and perhaps we judge what we see by those standards and by the fact that we are all friends, that's nice and I wouldn't want to change it but it's quite a good thing to go over there for a good old fahioned unbiased opinion.
I mean, look at Rbraz and his 1k's, they truely got what they deserved.
-
Cool!!!! Nice music too! reminds me of the old nes music. :*) Bobs rule!!!
-
Thanks Relsoft :) The intro is a lot like me, simple and old fashioned ;)
-
The ones the burn my ass are those that don't code but are professional critics it seems. ;D
That's the exact bone thats sticks in my throat. I know everyone's entitled to an opinion but the way I see it is, if you can't be arsed doing anything productive and positive, shut your ass up and sit down.
Then again, maybe that's just me. ;)
-
The problem with that place can be that if you argue with them they can tend to get the knives out for you but it's like many other places, you get your negative members, just roll with the punches if you can and see it for what it is.
Don't take it too seriously if you don't want to.
-
Take it with a pinch of salt, the main thing is you had fun making and that's all that really matters. If others like it, then thats an added bonus, and gives a nice warm feeling. That's my take on things, and i dont let comments bother me too much.
Going back to the demo. I like this extra, as it's a different style for DBF.
-
kool old skool demo, hehe I liked it. The music fit in well too.
sweet stuff
-
Hello again guys . . .
Shockwave - the code for this demo, why do you have the logo as data statements :o (this is NOT a criticism - just interested!!!)
Is it easier to manipulate that way? or is it something that FreeBasic likes?
Thanks for the comments throughout the code - it makes it so easy to understand!!! ;D
Going to look at your fire routines next!!!
Regards
DrewPee
. . . and what is Pouet? am i missing something there?
-
Hi Drew,
I have the logo as data statements because I've used a library called tinyptc, with this library you can basically do only a few things;
1 : Open a double buffered screen.
2 : Copy a buffer (array) into the screen.
3 : Close the screen.
That's it! There are no other commands;
ptc_open
ptc_update
ptc_close
So all the graphics have to be drawn by putting numbers into an array, the logo is just a
sequential list of numbers so it knows what colour to plot and where!

Is a place where people connected with the demo scene hang out. Having said that, there are lots of other places where sceners like to congregate. Pouet is famous for it's many logos and it's bbs. Groups in the scene post their demos and the other sceners give their (often brutal) critique :)
-
pouet is scene portal. It's not my favorite place anymore....

Very nice, very fresh feeling. Reminds me of Skid Row release back in the Amiga days O0 O0
