Title: Scroll Comp Voting!
Post by: Shockwave on February 19, 2007
Back in January I was feeling kind of anxious that the board was quiet. It's wrong of me to be apprehensive as yet again you guys have shown me and everyone else here how truely great you are!

This competition was meant to be a kick start into 2007 to get the board up and running again. I expected that we'd probably have a few entries but nothing could have prepared me for the 23 (count 'em!) that we got!!!!

23 Entries on a quiet forum.

23 Entries using a selection of languages as diverse as Java, Yabasic, Blitz, Freebasic, C++ And more. That's no mean feat, you have a lot to be proud of because as usual the standard of work that has gone into a lot of the entries is very impressive, as is your imagination. You've really surpassed yourselves this time and it gives me high hopes for the next one which will have a few prizes on offer to thank you all for your support and for making this forum the coolest coding forum I've ever visited.

For those of you that didn't get the time to make a demo, please do vote for your favourites.

**IMPORTANT**

YOU CAN TICK 3 BOXES, THAT'S THREE BOXES.

In the past, lots of people have just ticked one. Please choose your 3 favourites.

This poll runs for 5 days, Wham, who had the idea for this comp has also been kind enough to provide some gfx sigs for whoever is in the top 3 :)

Thank you thank you thank you so much, please get voting!!!!!

I really wish that I had more time. I have two unfinished ideas, but I have been spending the last 4 days working on my brothers new house, laying down tiles (1800sf), painting and cleaning. But it all good because it got me started coding again, and I am happy with the two enties. Its also great to see the large number entries and the diversity of them all. Good luck to everyone, and I for one am looking forward to the next challenge.

This is the very first time I've ever entered a programming competition and it was a great experience I will definately be entering more as time goes on. I have been given so many good ideas to steal I mean 'borrow'

Hey, I didn't know there was a scrolling compo. I'd really like to participate in that one but everytime I joined DBF forums I was addicted by the new arcade section instead of reading the coding forums, just like your girl. Hahaha! I only know learned about this compo and happened to watch the entries and there are several great ones. Pitty because I'd like to think of some clever scrolling idea demo. Maybe I'll be more prepared for the next competition  :stirrer:

Since I'm new here, I'm going to do the most horrible thing a n00b could do: I'll suggest something!
Since we're not dealing with Flash productions (i.e. something that can play directly in the web browser) perhaps it would be nicer (easier for us, users) to offer all the productions in a single (compressed) file in the first post? A folder per production or something like that...

Best regards,
varver

Did you check with my wife? Unless the subject is best demo you can do in 5 minutes, you better make some room in that garage.

I'll move some stuff around Taj. :)

Varver, suggestions are welcome, some of the entries can usually be played in browsers as we have a couple of Java coders here. All entries are attached to their specific post, people following the competitions can keep their eye on what gets submitted and not just jump in at the end post a vote and go, it's friendlier this way. Also you must remember that these submissions are in a lot of languages, typically we'll have C++,Freebasic, Java, even interpreted languages so easier to keep them seperate, if you want to keep up to date you can use the rss feed. Welcome to the board too  :hi:

Forgot about the scroll comp. Didn't have the setup to view them all at my end.
I didn't think the good will message would count. Can I rename it? (kidding)

Have a Yahappy day.

Wow! I won!!!!

Yay!

Putting that aside, congratulations to everyone who entered the competition! Prize giving (Karma etc) will commence as soon as the sigs are ready, don't worry it's in hand, Wham has been a little busy this week  ;D

Top placings are:

1st place : Someone called Shockwave (Never heard of him!)
2nd place : Jim
3rd place : Taj

All in all, mega entries and many thanks to those who voted. If you didn't enter this time, don't worry! A new comp starts tomorrow!

If you didn't vote, tsk! Make sure you do next time, you really can influence the results. We need your votes ok? :)

Congratulations to everyone who entered, I for one have loved watching each and every one of them!

Stay tuned for prize givings and the launch of the next challenge!
