Title: 20SECONDS - 20sTimer
Post by: Tetra on March 06, 2007
Heres my first entry for the 20SECONDS compo!

Its written in Blitz3D and using blitz own collision system. Its a bit slow, and will take longer than 20 seconds on any PC thats older than mine ( 6 years :P )

I mite have a go at making my own collision system for it, so I can have more sand particles! and have it last 20s on any system :)

Its not a great simulation, and some of the collisions and accel is wrong, but it achive the effect :)

A zip file of the models and code is available for download, you will need the models to run the code.

the compiled exe is available here Download (http://www.tetrahedron.me.uk/20sTimer.zip)

That works :) I was wondering if we'd get an hourglass in the comp, and we have one!
As usual, a high quality submission from you Daf, thanks for getting the comp off the starting blocks!

Nice.
Personal view, it would be nicer if you where a little closer to the action. Maybe reduce the height of the hourglass and zoom in a little so that you can see the particles easier.

hehe it seemd like the obvious thing to make :D
mite have a go at a 2d version too.

Thats a great idea Graheam, i've modified the code and updated the download, looks much cooler now thanx :D

I havent been able to make the glass smaller though, the particles just keep getting stuck that way. Blitz collisons is good, but not great unfortunately, and I dont have any kind of real physics in there either  :skint:

Are you going to use the 3D engine you made before if you do a 2d version? That could be quite challenging!!! Rather you than me.

lol I cant agree more hehe, I was thinking more of the 2D flat kind :) then i could just use pixels as the grain of sand, and being 2D I could have thousands of grains insted of a few hundred  :updance:

The idea of a sandclock is great and does really fit well into the current compo's topic.

Works smooth and fine here. Very well done !!!

Remindes me of the intro to "The Days of Our Lives" ( come on, doesn't mean I watch that tv show ;) )
Great idea for 20 seconds of entertainment!
