Me, I love 2 kinds of music. I have 2 sides to me, one is death/heavy/black metal. And one is classical/Instrumental kind of music.
My favourite band right now has to be "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" (GY!BE) which is a weird name yeh, but then again the band is too. They havnt revealed any pictures or names of any band members, why? They make music for the love of music, not for profit. Their style is very very unique. Their an indie band too :) Some of their songs are 2 hours long, some are 20 minutes. They have their own styles and set their own limits. But then again if no one ever breaks the limit, how do you know where the limit is? ;)
Give em a listen here:
http://www.myspace.com/gybereal
(Moya is one of my personal fav.'s)
Anyway this is my list of bands as of now, the ones toward the bottom are ehh heavier :P
Lets start with roly! :)

I like mostly Hard Rock / Heavy music mostly, but not neccassarily mean I dont like other genres. If it sounds cool, then I'll most likely like it
A few of my fav bands are: Black Sabbath, Metallica, Guns And Roses, Velvet Revolver, Pink Floyd, Joe Satriani, Slash's Snakepit ( Im a huge Slash Fan! ), Gorillaz, Ugly Kid Joe, Extreme, The Eagles, Huey Lewis And News ( Power of Love "Classic" ). To name just a few.
-
Jazz and Rock (any variety almost) mostly Jazz though and of course oldskool chippies :)
-
Hello again guys! :]
I'm a musician (I play ~3 instruments), so basically, I like any music that I can't play, or that takes some kind of musical talent to pull off and play.
I prefer (genre-wise):
- Classical
- Jazz
- English Folk
- Eastern Folk
- Classic Rock (Anything 1960-1981 pretty much really)
- Demostyle ;]
Anything ~1200A.D.-1981A.D I like. Nothing newer. Down with modern styled music and their non-musicianship!!! :P
Artist-Wise:
- Miles Davis
- Charles Mingus
- Pink Floyd
- John Coltrane
- Mozart
- Jethro Tull
- Rush (Too cool.)
C'yall later :] 'N good luck on your coding/art/music :)
-
Heya Coder, welcome along O0
Diverse muscal tastes there mate. Some I like, I'm not really into folk music at all tho.
-
Hi!
I mainly listen to Eurodance (the actual tracks and of course the 90s stuff). Pop/Italo Muzak from the middle 80s and sometimes Rock and Metal. My favorite Bands are Roxette and Gyllene Tider.
And sure, all kind of C64 and Amiga Music.

What I listen varies in my mood. I can't really decide..
Usually, I am fan of rock, classic, hard or progressive, a bit of metal, also lately fan of industrial/EBM/electronic sounds. I also like a bit some hip hop/rap stuff. Some random groups I like, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Bon Jovi, The Cure, Metallica, Going Through, Anathema, Apoptygma Berserk, Assemblage 23, Sigur Ros and even GSYBE! too (The last two were introduced from my brother who is a great fan of them. I liked them so I listen to them too at times).
I had found even myself listening to some catchy tunes in pop and other styles, like madonna or natalie imbruglia songs, or others I don't remember right now but are in a random MP3 folder ;)
I am preety diverse in liking, but I wasn't much into music listening and never was a fan of a particular group/genre. Those are some of my likings though..
Oh, and demomusic too of course ;)
Favorite artists: Skaven, Purple Motion, Lizardking, Big Jim, Jogeir, Lluvia, Hunz, Clawz, Radix, Elwood and many more I forget right now..
-
I like the seattle scene when it was hot. Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Toad the we sproketetc. I also like (old)newwave stuff, like Fra lippo Lippi, The cure, Depeche Mode, u2, simple minds, etc. But my tastes in music seems to ba varied because I also like Madonna, Mandy Moore, seal, the coors, Saliva, tatu, babylon zoo. For democene music I think the best so far is "Champolion est un Pede" by traven and ethos9. :*)
-
My favorite band of all times have to be Depeche Mode, but I am very diverse in my taste of music and listen to a lot of different genres like: R'n'B, Dance, Techno, Pop, Country(the new stuff), Electronic, Trance, Classic (in the like of Sarah Brightman), Modern Jazz, well just about anything except Heavy Metal, Classic like Mozart, Polka, Punk and Weird foreign world music :) I am a big time fan of Amiga style music ofcause and have an extensive mod collection that I listen to every now and then, mostly when working on demos, which I haven't done much lately unfortunately.

-
I just can't post here every Group/Artist I like, but I can create a small list:
Lordi,
Enigma,
Rob Dougan,
Chopin,
Mozart
Beethoven,
Robby Williams,
Marylin manson (some songs),
Henry Manzini,
paniq (Anybody whoi knows him?),
Sugar Ray,
royksopp,
Bear McCreary,
E. S. Posthumus,
Moby,
Billy Joel,
X-Dream,
.......
-
It would be different and cool to have some classical music in a demo :)
-

I am more into Industrial/Darkwave/EBM/Futurepop/etc. these days. I have them in my MP3 to listen during my army duty and search for more infos on the genres, history and download stuff from Emule. I am currently a big fan of VNV Nation.
-
When you say industrial, do you mean stuff like Ramstein? I am quite into that myself too.
-
Goth and Abba, which when I think about it, should worry me. I'll put it down to my artistic temperament. O0
-
I'm trying and failing to imagine Abba dressed up in goth gear and black make up.
-
Well, that too. Rammstein is an industrial metal band I think. I haven't heard much of this band yet though except from the classic Du Hast :)
VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Assemblage 23, Covenant, Colony 5, Melotron are some of the bands from these genres whose songs I currently like.
-
@Optimus : VNV Nation is really good, IMO. What all songs of theirs have you heard?
-
I'm a big HipHop / DNB fan. I'm more into the dj's than the mc's though and i don't really get into the "gangster" stuff much. There's a select few that i think did it well though.
I mostly listen to things like Xecutioners, Beastie Boys, Pendulum
My favourite djs would be something like Mike D, Premiere, Craze
-
Blitz Amateur: Further, Beloved, Standing, Genesis, Lightwave are some of the songs I like. Do you have some more to suggest from VNV or other similar groups?
-
Optimus: Can't say I've heard a similar group yet, they're pretty unique. Although, a couple of other songs of theirs I'd reccomend, End of Days, Rubicon, and Chrome (Although, it's an odd one)
-
I think Further == End of Days. I've found the same song as end of days and further and someone said further is the right title.
Yeah, I have heard Rubicon too and it rocks. I'll go to check Chrome.

Loopy, I used to love watching the Aphex Twin videos on MTV. They were really demo-ish ;D
-
Aye, there were some pretty good ones, alright. I'm just afer checking since you mentiond them and some of them up on YouTube now :)
I guess Edd got me in to AFX. Hell, there was even a Gloom "Come To Daddy" episode. Rich is Irish, too :D
-
I'm not into music alot, you IM me and start talking music, it's like when I IM my bro and start talking code, it's all greek, some of my old friends found that annoying I think, they only talked music once.... but! I do have a few styles I like..
Styles:
Techno/Trance/Progressive
Alternative Rock
Classical Music
Carabian(sp?) style music, perferably with steal drums, those rock.... 8)
.... and just about anything else with a nice beat, something to keep pace with my bad nerves, and the racket in my head.. I don't keep band names much, so I don't have a long list of those.... :) .. I just listen and get in the groove: :||
-
Classical music is very cool indeed Rattra :) I'm going to tune into Classic FM right now in fact. I need it.
-
Speaking of demoish video clips. Have you seen the "Move your feet" video? It was made in dpaint and an amiga :)
Awsome song too.

-
That's stunning!
I can't imagine the time that must have taken.
-
Looking back on this thread its remarkable seeing the extent to which my musical tastes have advanced.
Now im really into NIN and Tiesto/Van Buren for trance.
-
Yeah, it's funny to look back on things you posted long ago. I sometimes do that myself.
-
NIN are fucking amazing. Going to see them in August, can't wait.
-
Still Evanessence and Abba.
Guess some of us are too old to advance. :crutches:
-
Coming into this a tad late i think ;D
But here goes the lately listened too:
Dubmood
Goto80
Ensiferum
Wintersun
Children Of Bodom
YM Rockerz
AY Riders
Hocico
Dulce Liquido
To sum it up really, Folk/Black/Death/Speed Metal, Chip Of Course, EBM, that kind of thing :D
-
Quite a diverse range of music round here which pretty much sums me up, i like most anything from Abba to Black Sabbath (for a limited time at least ;)) Most of the music i like these days is inspired from demo's and games infact i'd go as far as to say i much prefer instrumental music these days it's nice in the background while your doing whatever it is your doing!
Rather than pick out groups / bands i like etc i'll go for styles of music!
Synth (computer Generated including game/demo music)
Rock (from Rock and Roll to Heavy rock)
Classical (As Shockwave said would be great to see a demo with a classical score but it would need to be a long one ;)
Pop (Booo yeah all that 80's music i just can't forget it ;))
Trance (Ambient nothing too fast!)
Carabian(sp?) style music, perferably with steal drums, those rock....
(from: Rattrapmax6)
Caribean I also love this kind of music especially the steel drums as well!
-
Speaking of demoish video clips. Have you seen the "Move your feet" video? It was made in dpaint and an amiga :)
Awsome song too.

Wow just noticed this Fantastic piece of work! :updance:
-
Very cool ... reminds me somehow on some melon design productions.
-
Im a fan of Italo Disco and Space Synth. Its the best genre ever I guess, everything is made with synthesizers just like it should be. These are not genres but the composing style, its also easy to create. I think MaktOne composes his chiptunes on this style too. Go and shearch for "Space Synth" or "Italo Disco" on youtube it will give you a clear view of the style.
-
Are you into Jean Michel jarre as well?
I like some of his sounds.
-
Jean Michel I have heard some good stuff from him but there are better artists then him, the problem with italo disco artists is they used many artistnames for their music. I just downloaded a cd of him wich was pretty bad in my opinion, I think he rushed with his composing. Some of my favorite artists are Koto, Laserdance (a.k.a proxyon, area54, syntech, rygar and some I forgot), Ken Laszlo, K Barré, Max Him and or course Humphrey Robertson the guy behind Hypersound Productions.
Its a waste, the track of these days are nothing compared to the Italo Disco maybe the artists focusses more on the effect then on the composing style I guess.
But if you like Jean Michel jarre, then you will like Space Synth for sure.
-
I started this around a year ago!
Since than NIN has remained my fav band!
gonna seem em live in August!
cant wait! xD
-
I went to see them at Wembley 17 years ago, unfortunately we turned up late and missed NIN and only got to see Skid Row and GnR.
-
I put on here last night about the Rock & Roll Gods or Progressive Music Yes. And I didn't see it today everybody needs to see them next year live Jon Anderson is ill right now, so they had to cancel the tour. But if he is better next year they will tour you should see them if you like great Rock & Roll before they die they are getting older. And even at their ages they still kick young bands asses out there now.
Take a look at the Albums by them like Relayer, Tales from Topographic Oceans, and Close to the Edge. They are one of the first Bands who played really long songs and influenced Rush. I’ve seen them many times during the 2000’s and they kick everybody’s Butt the only band close to them right now is Rush. And I’ve seen them a lot last year in fact they are all good just the same for Yes they are all good musicians.

This is the Band below playing in 2003.

TBH when I hear Yes I always think Buck Rogers / Flash Gordan music. One of my close friends loves them and he has some great taste in music it might be his fault I dont rate them, he plays them all the time.
-
Hi music fans,
I've just found out albeit a little bit late, that in April 1st Velvet Revolver ( My Guitar Hero - Slash, Matt Sorum, Duff McKagen, Dave Krushner ) are splitting up with singer Scott Weiland ( formerly Stone Temple Pilots ). Not entirely sure if they are disbandoning completely as the band - Velvet Revolver; but to me it's sad news as they are a great Rock Band. And I wondered if anyone could shed some light, and confirm if this is in actual fact true, or an April Fools prank?
Cheers,
Clyde.
-
Im a sucker for Psytrance.. mainly Darkpsy, FullOn and Progressive.. untz untz!!! :||
-
well...mainly I listen to psychedelic music, electronic and something played with real instruments, like kingstonwall or hidrian spacefolk...psy trance I like as well. but of course sometimes want to relax with some corny gangsta rap or corny reggae :D chill stuff I like well and also some really relaxed pop rock songs :D hippie country like jayhawks is also something for me and then I like some gospel music too...actually I like everything which I found somehow interesting :/
- Kypho the beginner
-
At the moment I'm listening to Aphex Twin, Springsteen, Squarepusher, Dinosaur Jr., Fugazi, Flaming Lips, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Husker Du.
Well that's not what I'm listening to at all, probably, but it's what comes to mind.
Nothing wrong with corny gangsta or reggae, sometimes you gotta laugh at the gangsta stuff and reggae is usually good for relaxing if it isn't *too* bad.
Listening to some Jayhawks now, thanks!
