Enjoyment Factor.
What is it about computing that you enjoy the most?
Could it be some of these or something else: the learning of something new, the marriage between visuals and music, composing ambient tones, being fancy with pixels, or simply the love of creating magical effects & wizadry?
Personally - I generally get a buzz from trying and being creative with graphics and code. I'm not really all that with the music side of things. But I do enjoy putting together stuff, granted some things don't turn out as expected which can be quite cool ( often not, hehe ); and also there's the worry of running out of effects to do, when that happens I tend to wait for inspiration to spring. And it's a nice bonus if someone else likes them too.
Thanks,
Clyde.

Nice topic, Clyde.
I really like the fact of being creative with new technolgies. Beside from the hardware -
there are no boundaries of creativity. The only thing what holds you back from coding
certain things are your own coding skills. And that's a cool motivation to learn and learn...
There is a cool intro out there ( I think from mainloop ) - there it says something like
this :
"what the canvas is to the painter -
that's the screen to me.
what the ink is to the painter -
that's zeros and ones for me" (or something like that ...)
Furthermore, the internet offers just an awesome way for communication. Even if I am
aware of the technical facts of internet traffic, routing and the protocols - it is still
a miracle that this communication net is so fast and cool ...

I used to only play games. Now I hardly ever do. I prefer being creative. Learning to code and doing 2d art when my brains feeling lazy. I used to like making music with a friend of mine a while back who had a proper set up, but with a 20 gig hard disk space is a bit tight for that kind of stuff plus the only prog I know how to use is Reason and I don't have it.

Opening a box of new hardware.

As in taking a screwdriver to it? I've heard that's not so easy with the ps3.
-
Nah, I just shoved that under the telly. It's unwrapping the bubble wrap, untwisting the cable ties and plugging it all in without reading the manual that's the fun part.:)

Christmas for adults Jim? New technology.
I really like the mix of logic and creativity that comes with computers, and I love the ease of communication that comes with the internet.

Hard to choose one thing I like.
To me it's interesting how different pieces of code come together (soundsystem, demoplayer, etc) to form one cohesive unit, learning new things, and of course using ModPlug ;)

Watching the stuff that gets posted here makes the whole online thing worthwhile to me. The competitions are a major, major motivating factor too, I love coding for them :)

Yup. Definately. Coding Competitions are great. Especially the ones here in the forum.
Before, I really missed such a place with comps like these ...
And the forum is great, too. If someone posted a question - I often consider that as
a riddle to solve. That is simply fun. In addition, you know that you can help someone
with solving the riddle.
