Title: Alpha testers for a new web site.
Post by: zparticle on May 08, 2007
Hey everyone. Normally I don't try to hype my web sites on other sites but I thought this might be a good place to pick of some alpha testers. The site allows you to share image, video and audio files with others. It's still in the early stages and many more features will be added over time.

Anyone willing to take a look and give honest and HELPFUL feedback is welcome to give it a try. Please send feedback to webmaster @ etherfun.com . Thanks!

30 views and no replies :( I apologise for that Zparticle. Looking at the site it seems to be nicely done and looks like it works fine here (firefox),  Have you got any objections to it being used as hosting for demos by members here?

It could be handy as there are several times where people have projects that need hosting that are too big to fit on our webspace (we've used 400mb out of 800mb already!)

I'm not much into the blogosphere, MySpace or YouTube, but I checked out your page and it's good in IE7 Vista.  It does say 'done with errors on page' but I'm not sure if that's to do with some coding error or just that the link to the picture of your dog is broken?! :)

I'm still working on getting all of the errors out and getting it to render properly in FireFox and Opera.  I might add a "programs" section for folks to be able to upload their programs but my concern is that people might start uploading pirated stuff, I'll have to think about it.  I do have a huge amount of disk space available so I guess if I monitor it closely and get the "Please Remove" stuff in it would work out.  How would that work?  I wouldn't want to take traffic from this site.

Mainly I created the site to help me get a better handle on CSS.

If you are providing a way of uploading files for people, that could be linked to then I don't see why I'd have a problem with you posting it here. Once you have completed the testing then I would be prepared to link you on the front page of this website (we get a fair bit of traffic, lots of good hits from web-bots too).

As for pirated content, that's really got to be down to you to moderate your site.
I can understand where you are coming from with that one, but I can assure you that the instant that I found an illegal file or link posted on this board it would be removed.

Alright Shocky I'm ready to get going.  http://www.etherfun.com

I've added two new types of articles Document and Program.  I might allow users to add a screenshot for a program article later but right now it just uses a default icon.

To link tro an article you post just click the View Article link after adding the article and then copy the url in the address bar of the browser, that's the link to the article on the site.

I have a TON of file space and can buy more if I need it.  The uploads are limited to 8 megs each.  If you guys see more categories that should be added let me know.

I'm going to allow people to add comments to articles as well, but that is a bit down the road.

Hey zparticle,

I really like the functionality of your site.  I tested the movies, pictures and programs.  No sound here at work.  All in all, no errors, nice speed, looks clean and consistent.  Great work.

My advice would be a new design.  Maybe some sexy graphics for buttons, a logo, etc.

Be Cool.

Thanks for the feedback.  Yeah I need to make the whole thing better looking but I'm mainly focusing on the functionality right now. Thanks again! :)
