Over the last months, we've seen a surge in the amount of new signups to the forum, and yet the post count has not gone up in line with this.
There have been several discussions about this between myself and the rest of the team who admin the board and we gathered our ideas.
The main thing we wanted to do was to give the programming side of the board some more prominence, so therefore all the programming forums are now located at the top of the board.
Another bugbear was that there were a lot of boards, it was somewhat bewildering, some boards have been removed. No posts have been deleted, they have merely been moved. For instance, all the blitz forums have been merged together, art and sound have been merged together, the announcements forum has been mothballed, all the old posts in there are archived for now.
Two accounts, namely Clyde and RDC had administration privilages, I tried to contact both these members to see if they were ok and if they wanted to continue in thier roles on this board and unfortunately both haven't responded.
I felt it was unfair to leave these accounts with thier privilages as the rest of the team are around and all contribute to the board when they can, therefore I'd like to wish Clyde and RDC well and thank them very much for thier hard work on the board, but as in the past, inactive mods / admins need to make way for new team members that will move this board forward.
We really hope that after a little bit of time when you get used to the new layout, you'll be able to find everything a lot easier than before!
Some categories have been re-organised too with the order of some boards being changed both due to posting activity in them and the information contained within them.
I do stress again, nothing has been deleted and nothing has been done that could not be un-done!
Tweaks are likely to continue as we try to perfect this re-organisation.
Thanks for your patience!

Looking good so far. Nice one, Nick.

The forum looks great layed out this way, and I really like the reduced number of boards there are, good job :goodpost:
-
Excellent :)
Jim
-
seems it is now more structured... ;)
-
Well done, Shocky!
-
The forum look better than before....
keep good work up
-
Indeed - it looks better and gives first time visitors a better idea of what we are about.
-
Something has gone awry - before I log in, I can see the homepage fine, but after I log in, there's no content, just the menu buttons.
-
Try clearing cookies and/or cache and have another go.

@ck0:
With most browsers you can force a complete reload of a page by pressing :
[CTRL] + F5
-
Definately a cookie problem there, sounds like a corrupt cookie.
-
No, its the same wether I clear the browser cache, clear the proxy cache, hit F5, anything.
No big loss though, all I need to do is log out if I want to see the front page.
-
Oh, bum clouds.
I cannot post a shout-out announcing the start of the JAVACOMP.
I'll see if a change of browser works out well...
-
@CK0:
Try the following :
- Go to the forums
- Go back to the Fronpage
- Then try adding a shoutbox message
This is how it works for me ;-)
-
No, I still can't see it.
Might be a problem with my proxy. Stupid network.
I'll try from a different connection...

Sorry I didnt get back to you, onething led to another. But you cool cats are doing a marvelous job, keep it up and take it easy gang.
I guess the dreaded summer slump is happening.
Cheers & Take care,
Clyde.

It's been quite busy for the Summer so far actually Clyde. I was sorry to have to have a clear out too. It was done with my heart in my mouth literally. There is so much information on this board that I did not want to lose any of it.
As for appointing new moderators, happilly everyone seems to be working well together as a team, this always helps the post count. I was sad to remove yours and RDC's admin privilages but as I am sure you will understand, an unattended admin account is vulnerable to hacking attempts, not to mention demoralising for the rest of the moderators who have to pick up the pace.
The work and huge contribution you make to keeping the site busy have always been appreciated and you really were missed when you went away. We're glad you are back now.
-
Thanks man, I really appreciate that as too what the admin / mod team do. You're doing a busting job all of you, keeping it all running smoothly and friendly driven. And I also know what it's like to be hacked myself. And what an amazing feat to reach near on 360; I think that's doubled or even tripled, from when I sadly dissappeared from Mr Internet.
Keep it up, and thanks,
Clyde.

I have a couple of mere ideas, if there any use to you dudes.
Is there a way to include the Child Boards posts to the Main Category posts; for example other languages says it only has 0 posts, but in reality has far more - same with the Showcase area.
I wonder if people would be interested in a Dark Basic Child forum too?
-
Hi Clyde :)
Firstly, I also noticed that the child boards posts do not show up in the parent boards totals, it would be nice if all child forums were added together and put as a cumulative total but unfortunately this software doesn't allow for it sorry. :-\
Secondly there will be no other boards added to this forum in the forseeable future. We just chopped the amount of boards down!!!! Why would we add more?
The days where we add a board because it might be a good idea and perhaps people would post in it if we put it there are gone, having a load of dead pointless categories here caused me a headache and was responsible for low posting activity. Adding unnescessary forums is destructive, any Darkbasic posts could go in the general code forum, though I've seen some DB stuff myself, I have never seen anything done in DB that impressed me sorry.
I don't mean to appear negative about this Clyde, I'm sure that you know that I am open to suggestions, even though I might not agree with some of them.
