So I took about an hour to make this banner for my other game forum. Your thoughts? I like MS Paint. Photoshop always wants to make thousand color images and sprites. The image has 10 unique colors.

@Pixel_Outlaw:
The spaceships and weapons fire looks great. Very oldschoolish. IMHO the logo should
have more focus for being a banner.

The sprites would look great in an oldschool game and nice as it is do work with paint I don't really think this works as a banner... The writing is too small in proportion to the logo for one thing.

I would use Photoshop, Paint always saves an image with a low quality for some unknown reason.

PhotoShop's , or similar, level of control is light years ahead of Paint. Even such simple things as color correction, layers, masks, ... make a huuuuuge difference when you rush something in 1h. And nothing says one can only do truecolor images in PhotoShop.
For instance I rushed the following banner, 1-2h probably. There are a few things I could/should tweak but it's still ok:
