First to start I want to say hello to all members of this forum. I have done gfx since 2001, that was the year I started. Later I started to discover more and more, also about the whole scene. I really loved the installers and demos I saw so I got interested in the scene. Later in 2005 I became a part of some crackers crews and did gfx for them. I wanted to get here some feedback, I have upped some of my stuff (showing the most recent first)

A font I created fast, dont use it without my permission.
This patcher, is the result of a video tutorial I made for a good friend of me, who really got frustrated about his gfx skills. The length of the tutorial is 90mins (yep like a real movie).
Took me 5 days to finish this one, I think it had to due that I used 400 layers for this one so it slowed my computer.
Completed this one in 9 hours, in fact I made this one in rush! Because they had some release's wich had to be released quickly.
I made this one when I really got bored, after 16 hours I finally finished this one.
A small logo wich was used in serveral keygens and patchers. Created this one in 1:30. Nothing special I guess.
And there goes 42 hours of my life to the moon. A dude requested a chip disk skin, after 42 hours I finally finished it. But this project is history, they all forgot about it because of the lazy coder.
Trained the game, gfx'ed the skin by my self. A one man release.
An another one man release by my self. Only this time I rushed with the gfx.
Probly one of the ugliest stuff I ever made, altough it took me 12 hours to finish this one.
Made this one, like 20 other skins I made for this shit de-respectfull crew.
This skin was requested by a new guy who joined that crew that friday. I finished this one in 2 days without sleeping after all, I did everything by hand without using someone's brushes. Monday it was used for some releases. Its one of the best skins I made.
I still can remember how this skin slowed my PC. It was also requested by a cracker who used many of my skins for the best of his releases. I did the tech details by hand, it took me 36 hours to finish this skin.
The information about this one is totally vanished in my mind, the only thing I remember was after this skin I got a real great offer from a great group.
Made this one in rush, finished it in 3 hours.
Same story again.
Bleh, the lazy keygenner couldnt code the buttons in the working order.
The following skins where made in rush.

Nice artwork p43! If you're looking to get your stuff in a prod there will defintely be people here who you could hook up with.

I really like some of those skins too, quite a few of them seem to be a little bit rushed though. You definately have a recognisable style running through your work :)
What groups are you / have you been in?
Thanks for posting them and welcome along.
-
Verynice work well done :) :hi:
-
Awesome work. Really.

(http://dbfinteractive.com/Themes/azure_11final_tp/images/huh.gif) am I the only one thinking these interfaces are screaming PhotoShop hip from the late 90's. It really reminds me of some of MarbleMad's work. Duh, every one and his dog was doing the same stuff back in the days.
Most of your interfaces have a problem of contrast. The text are hard to read. It might get better with the hover/active state of the buttons though.
(http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6228/024si7.jpg) Took me 5 days to finish this one, I think it had to due that I used 400 layers for this one so it slowed my computer.
400 layers ? I've been working in the web and advertising business for years and have rarely heard of that many layers. You seem to abuse of layers and simple effects/gradients.
WRT "crack design", AFAIR the only stuff I loved were those done the good dudes of the former Logo-Factory, namely Splif, Kenet, Acet-1, ... these guys can/could make a prod shine!
-
I Like it! Nice work m8.
Its not abuse just because its not to your taste p01.
-
Some nice pieces of work there!
-
Very Very good
it make my UnFinished FONTS that I made look like 5yrs old baby! LOL

(http://dbfinteractive.com/Themes/azure_11final_tp/images/huh.gif) am I the only one thinking these interfaces are screaming PhotoShop hip from the late 90's.
No, I thought something similar myself. It doesn't mean that I dislike them though.
-
I didnt abuse them, try to create something with many details you will see how many layers you use. Currently Im only in YGS, doing gfx for the crackers division. BTW what do you mean with late 90ties gfx? I really dont get it. My full nickname is parse43, I also created some drawings wich I need some feedback on it.

Someday I will create a 4chan chip tune of it.
About that blue skin, yes I pretty screwed it up because I made the buttons long time ago later when I decided to finish it I wasnt in the mood at all. I really used 400 layers for it, and believe me I know what Im doing. But I need feedback on the new stuff I posted in this post.
-
People, one can assess the intrinsinc quality of a work regardless of his/her own taste.
parse43: Answer if you will, but how old are you and how long have you been doing graphics on computer ? It looks like you are at an early stage of your "career". Some of your work reminds me of things I was doing in the early 90's, others of things I did during my first couple of years with PhotoShop.
I'm born in 78, I've been pushing pixels for 20+ years and using Photoshop since v3.0. IMHO there is something wrong when one uses more than 30 layers for such simple things. The amount of details is not directly related to the amount of layers. I just don't see where the 400 layers are in that blue interface.
You seem to be after a sense of volume with the overlaping shapes and gradients, but your interfaces look very flat. Using shadows and a consistent light source across the whole interface will help.
Also, try to tune the contrast and focus, cf the two images below:
The "pilars" and stuffs are over present while the texts barely visible.
Hope that helps,
As for the late 90ties style, just google for PhotoShop tutorials, many still list overused techniques from the mid-late 90's : cheap effects & textures, wires, strange interfaces, ...
-
No I dont need tutorials, many tutorials as you said are like somehow poor. These skins arnt recent, im working on more stuff today. I know what you mean with "flat" and I totally agree with you.
There are many details on it. I guess you never created something with many details. Since many people read too fast, I used almost 400 layers for that blue skin wich I dont like at all. but if you think is horrible? Believe me, I saw stuff that was really worst.
Thats why I started with brushings, because that adds more depth to some object. In the summer I became 18 years old.
Since I can do better then many photoshop tutorials, Im not going to spend my time on them since they are very lame in my eyes.
-
Hmm. Well if you don't want constructive feedback then perhaps you shouldn't ask for it?
-
Well, Shockwave. Did I wrote some where "I dont want your constructive feedback"? I guess not. I agree with p01 but about the 400 layered skin, I know what Im doing.
I agreed with some points of p01 about tutorials. I asked for feedback and I didnt say "dont give me constructive feedback". I know sometime I sound very anti social and rude but Im not. Also in reallife some people say I talk agressive, even if Im not angry only sometimes I get a rage/anger attack thats why I do not go to e demo party because I know I can hurt some one really bad with my hands but that has nothing to do with this I guess.
Im not here to mess up. :telloff: :crutches:or :boxer:
-
parse43: I did not say your work is horrible. As for the tutorials thing, I just said to look at some to see what I meant by 90's style, not that you need tutorials. You certainly need a crash course on shading and general layout though.
about the 400 layered skin, I know what Im doing.
Alright, I guess you know better than the graphists and illustrators I worked with having years/decades of experience.
-
I know I can hurt some one really bad with my hands but that has nothing to do with this I guess.
Im not here to mess up. :telloff: :crutches:or :boxer:
Calm down or leave. We have rules here and they are enforced.
-
They are hard to read for the most part but I dont agree that its simply a matter of contrast. I think its because the backdrops are too busy in the regions that hold text and alot of the text is too small to make out clearly. P43 does a great job making it look nice though, and that is exactly what an artist is suppose to do.
-
@Shockwave
I really dont understand why you replied with:
"Calm down or leave. We have rules here and they are enforced."
I did clearly post:
"Im not here to mess up."
I cant see the problem at all, and hurting some one via internet, well that would be a hard task. I think you got it totally wrong, or you tought that I ment that really offensive.
@p01
You posted:

What do the graphists and illustrators have to do with the topic? You said that as if they saw this topic too. It doesnt matter with who your work or if you graduated on the art sector. I dont even believe in graduations, I know many people who finished a complete art course and they cant even draw. I think that art is something some one cant learn, you can do it or not.
When I did IT, I also had teachers who tought themself that they where the one with powerfull skills. Well, I saw it with my own eyes that its more like something to show others that they are worthless and the teacher not. In fact, all those so called "I have experience teachers", who acted like many demo sceners of nowdays, they couldnt do many things by them self.
-
You sir are a troll and you are banned.
Goodbye!
-
That is utterly fucked up of you shockwave. p43's opinion is 100% valid. I also don't get where you got the idea he couldn't take critcism, is was ME who said to p01 that its a matter of taste.
-
Please read the rules of the forum.
Nonsensical threats of physical violence, macho bullshit etc are not welcome here, nor have they ever been.
Believe it or not I am very happy about the nice vibe that we have here, unfortunately from time to time people will come along and maybe not necessarily deliberately try and change things into a free for all, but I am aware of it happening in other places and I will not have the nice atmosphere here destroyed by trolling.
Rules here are quite relaxed apart from code theft, warez, pron and flaming between members.
As it happens I was just replying to an email from P43, his re-instatement to this community depends on him being able to understand the rules.
Anyway Spitfire, it was not about the opinion, it was that crap about being able to hurt people with his hands... I don't like that sort of stuff here ok?
I cannot be more fair than that.
-
I agree that a ban was not appropriate the lad is only 18 he did not use insulting language. And p01 did kinda push for a reaction by askin what age he was which in that context could be taken up as a big insult by some people
-
Look, I emailed the guy and asked him to refrain from posting things like "i can really hurt ppl with my hands" etc.
If he's happy. to do this then I will happily re-instate the account.
The general nice vibe we have had up until now here is worth preserving isn't it?
-
Agreed he was way out of line with that one lets hope there are no repeats
-
I actually think he was trying to explain why he sounds the way he does in his posts Rain, but it comes over all wrong and this place is different to every other code forum on the internet and I would not ever want that to change.
Sorry if it makes me unpopular sometimes but I intend to keep the place nice all the time.. Unfortunately that sometimes means that I have to make a decision about banning / warning a user. It's something that I wish I never had to do tbh.
Fwiw, P43 has had another chance as long as he agrees not to post stuff like that in future.
And P01, also asking his age probably didn't help matters much either but let's hope that he comes back and keeps in the same spirit as the rest of us.
-
p43: Regarding the graphists I worked with in the IT and advertisements business, these people really know/knew their shit, and I have never seen or heard of one of them using more than a 100 and something layers although they often worked on BIG images ( like A3 at 300-600 DPI, or 4x3m ads ) weighing in the Gb file size.
As a matter of fact, since I was the only one who didn't fall in love at first sight with your work, I forwarded this thread's URL to a graphist at work and he raised exactly the same points as I did.
-
Oh! things are moving fast tonight.
*: (http://dbfinteractive.com/Themes/azure_11final_tp/images/undecided.gif) the age/experience point seemed relevant to the discussion, that's why I tried to ask politely. It turns out that parse43 is indeed at a "relatively early stage of his career". I didn't mean to be insulting. Sorry if my tone lead people to think otherwise.
-
Sorry for bringing that up man I wasnt thinking straight. It was a bit disrespectful and it wasnt my place you know
-
I too appreciate the nice vibe here and moderators need to be commended for creating a cool environment. But I disagree that banning will help preserve that, in an unintentional case such as this. A more appropriate action would have been closing of the thread with an email warning. Indiscriminate banning, name calling ("you troll") along with a big misinterpretation of intentions is a sure way to lead to an oppresive regime. And then people wont feel safe to post and youll really see people getting edgy (as I did).
-
That being said, there are some really interesting points raised here by both p01 and p45 on the nature of art and quality and Id like to discuss them, but I wonder if doing so would contribute to the negativity?
-
I was in touch with P43 by email and his account is now re-instated.
I will make a detailed post later on about aggression in posts as well as a few other things so that everyone is clear about this for the future.
-
spitfire: Thanks, IMHO these points deserve their own thread.
-
Ok so I don't post often but felt the need to "speak up" here.
I've always found this board to be full of people offering support, help and guidance to each other whenever needed. Whatever the level of expertise, there is always support and guidance to be found here. It has a relaxed and supportive atmosphere and this is undoubtedly down to the members including the admins and mods.
Having been on forums which have had very little moderation or none at all....I would say is a bad thing. I have seen forums destroyed or become like dog baiting rings through lack of moderators. To me Pouet is a classic example of an un moderated site where insults and baiting lowers the tone of the forum.
So having been around since the start of this one and seen the hard work put into keeping it such a great place I can understand why there are occasions that an admin or mod may need to step in TO PROTECT THE VIBE OF THE FORUM. Inevitably this means that it may not be a popular decision with everyone but sometimes these warnings are needed to keep people mindful of the forum rules.
In the case of P43, I personally felt the comment about hurting people was uncalled for too as it obviously has nothing whatsoever to do with what was being discussed. However, having looked at everything in detail again and further posts I think that Nick has been fair in offering him to come back as long as he refrains from such comments. I think the topic of P43s ban should be put to rest now.
Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to all the admins and mods for their hard work here and also all the members for their contributions. Well done everyone - this is one of the nicest forums on the net....lets keep it that way :)
-
Your right Inc0gnit0, forums need to be administered or else it gets messy. These boards are very well administered and this place has a relaxed vibe that I have never seen elsewhere. I apoligise to you Shockwave for my part in the above its your responsibilty to decided the best COA and I respect that decission. I see know that jokes that cross a line are just as unacceptable as serious threats or racist slurs
-
No problem Rainstorm, that's cool.

Hello, Im back I had some trojans on my PC but now everything is fixed. About the age question, I know some people get mad about it but dont expect me to do that too. I wasnt mad, and I wont be mad if some one askes for my age, I think that is a normal question but for some older people its disrespectfull to ask them about their ages, I had the same with a teacher of me.
I agree with the admin, by not setting up the rules like this board everything will get messed up for a good example I will mention pouet.net.
I think p01, comments arnt destructive but fair. He clearly gave his arguments without flaming or anything like that, its good to hear that too.
Something personal to p01:
I know what you ment with mid 90ties gfx and bad texture gfx. In fact, I dont know if you know this but nowdays in the crackersscene there are to types or release groups. 0day and WWW. The WWW scene is more for people who never made it to the top, a common problem with crackers is if they have a poor connection they will never release 0day stuff. WWW crews have almost a public crew forum, where outsiders can post their gfx. And I must admit, mostly the GFX has real bad quality or the gfx'er copied the settings from some tutorial and he will say for sure "look what I made", in fact these people didnt create it by themself because all they have done is copied. Some other problem with the GFX'ers of the WWW scene is there is a big lack of drawing. I saw many stuff wich contained ripped GFX. And many people reply on those topics with subjects like "that is nice" or something like that.
But the fact is, that they just say its nice because they dont want to harm them but I think people must be fair to eachother. Thats why I said your comment wasnt destructive at all. If Im allowed, I post some of samples.
-
Welcome back :)
-
@p43:
yeah. welcome back!
