As long as you credits them when you put your game out(as freeware of your game remake such as retro game remake like super car 3 and ricky dangerious).

Great links. Thanks a lot

Although some of the packs contain some original game sprites - is it really legal to
use them and just give credits ?

Indeed, the tutorials about spriting are worth reading. I think the sprites for the old consoles arnt illegal. I wouldnt use them, because in my opinion it is not orginal some one else made it and not me. I would draw them by my self, the SNES sprites gave me some flashback of the good old days. The days when the games had a powerfull gameplay  :goodpost:

Talking about SNES, yesterday I beated Super Mario Bros 1 (SNES Mario All-stars), I was really disapionted by the ending screen all it displayed was "thank you for playing this game, try a harder level". :-\
