Title: 2 Button comp voting!
Post by: Shockwave on February 26, 2008
First of all a huge thank you to the creators of the 8 excellent games we have had submitted into this challenge! The two button limitation gave some quite surprising results and some diverse entries.

Some of the entries made a definate effort to fit into acceptable demo scene categories, others were good fun in thier own right and I know how impressed I was with them.

Now's the time to show your support for this challenge, especially if you did not enter the comp, all votes are needed!

Please do not vote on your own productions, thanks :)

Please make sure that you vote for your 3 favourite options. This is to make sure that the vote is fair.

Thanks :)

See below for some brief overviews of the games to refresh your memory if you need them.

Penny Traitor by Jim, this is a conversion of a classic arcade game that has been around with various names, most people will remember it as Penetrator, Scramble or Atlantis.

Amazing that this version is controlled entirely by two keys and retains it's gameplay!

Plasmafield by Optimus.

This integrates the classic demo effect "Plasma" into a game, and not only that, it employs two keys to control the plasma. It's a very clever idea and is a really nice example of how to integrate an effect into a game.

10/10 for originality!

Vacuum Expanded by Pixel Outlaw.

A clever concept using the staple mesh of many a demo, gluspheres. The two keys are used in a nice way to make a really challenging and quite addictive game, some swirling line effects are also added for extra eye candy.

Project 0xd9 by Rbraz.

Instead of getting a demo effect into the game, Rbraz made a game for the accepted scene category of 1kb.
It's pretty challenging to play and is quite an achievement to have made a 1kb game!

P1nkpong by Benny

Another great 1kb game :) Not only has benny managed to squeeze a game into 1kb, it also has a score display, it gets around the size limitation of the 1kb category by using a binary system to display the score.

More coderporn really and like Rbraz's game, people at Pouet seemed to like this a lot.

Earthbound by Tetra

This is a full blown game with fantastic thumping sound effects, you need to navigate the asteroid field whilst collecting several power ups. :)

Again, this game is fully controlable with two keys and great fun.

Monopong by Benny

This is the fore-runner to p1nkpong, it is a good game in it's own right, the controls are different to p1nkpong and it's missing the binary score system, and it's still an excellent game to have squeezed into a kb!

Rollertube by Shockwave and Ampli.

This game uses a tunnel effect for it's gameplay, the tunnel has various shards of glass sticking through it's walls and you need to rotate the tunnel to avoid the hazards as you roll along it getting faster and faster..

Shockwave,

before I vote can you clarify ... are we voting for game or game + demo effects ? I'm confused about the rules.

Fair enough but the rules of the compo said there are marks for demoish effects...so how is that going to be decided? Obviously now not on voting.

When I cast my own votes I will be looking at how well it integrated demoness into the production, as well as clever use of the buttons, that's how I will decide my favourite three.

So I guess that when you're voting you should think about those things and also if you enjoyed playing the game too. :)

I always enjoy how the entries are commented on. This is nice to have as a refresher some time after the games have been made.
