Here's a preview of a fire technique I am working on, I need some feedback with fps readings and your specs please :)
Thanks.
-
28-35 fps
amd @1.7GHz, 512Mb
Radeon 9600
-
Hmm, cheers Stonemonkey. A little slower than I'd have hoped.
-
Average here is 56-75 fps (75 is my monitors refresh rate )
Pretty slick and quick dude. Nice one.
P4 2.66Ghz w/ GF5500 (128mb)
-
Thanks Clyde.
This is the trouble with writing stuff with tinyptc, it struggles on some systems.
I'm honestly torn whether to carry on with this or to do something in GL instead.
I'll wait and see what other fps readings come in.
-
Its looking nice.
20 - 28fps
AMD XP 1.1Ghz, 768MB (non ddr  :o )
6600 GT
This card sux for pixelwise stuff, My old Ti 4200 still kicks its ass  ;D
-
Bout the same as Stonemonkey
29 - 36 fps here
amd @1.2GHz, 512Mb
ATI Radeon 9600
-
Thanks Daf, thanks Bill.
I really need to get this faster though :)
-
Wow, awesome fire spiral =)
45-55fps
AMD athlon XP 2600+
Ati Radeon 9600 Pro
-
Cheers Optimus.
I'm thinking of having a burning vector scroll if I can get it fast enough.
-
Could always try screen interlacing dude.
-
Yeah, that could work Clyde but I really want to keep the resolution as it is. I think I'll havew to be a little bit more canny.
-
Painful as this is, I think that the best way of getting a better frame rate will be for me to ditch the warping of the flames which means that I'll be able to make this routine viable for a demo.
I'll be releasing the full source code for this effect once I've got the demo coded.
I guess that it's hard to take a step back and scrap code that has taken a lot of work, but I have to admit that it looks probably a fair bit better without the warping. Oh well :) Thanks for the testing guys, you've saved me some embarrasment from releasing a slow routine.
-
83-87fps here, 3Ghz P4 Dualcore, 1gig ram, 512meg Radeon X1300 PCI-express (16x)
I think sometimes the pixel pushing is affected by the type and speed of interface between gfx card and motherboard, Maybe everyone can post if there card is PCI,AGP or PCI-E and the speed of the bus if they know it, would could atleast then see if it is possibly linked to that ???
-
One of lifes mysterys for me Jon.
I thought that it was directly related to the processor speed at first, a few tests on several computers gave me some surprising results.
I can say that tinyptc stuff in Freebasic seems to lag on some AMD systems and that the stuff seems to prefer ATI cards but that's not 100% accurate.
I was getting about the same results as you from this program.
Anyway, I've ditched the warp map and managed to increase it to about 125 fps, though I am sure that it will take a big hit on some systems. I'll need to be careful not to have any scrollers in this intro because they'll surely judder and I'll have to choose what I burn carefully unless I want to run this in 320 X 240 which would kind of defeat the object of using Freebasic because Thygrion and I already released an intro in Blitz in this res.
-
Nice one, I almost feel the heat :)
40 - 52 FPS
P4 2.8Ghz 512Mb
Geforce 6600GT 128MB
-
57-64 FPS
2.2 AMD Athlon64 1gig dual channel DDR RADEON X800Pro 256mb PCI-ex
-
Nice one guys :)
-
prolly to late for this but
55fps
amd sempron @ 1.5ghz (oc'd to 1.7)
nvidia geforce 6800gt 512mb video mem
2gigs ddr400 ram
-
Tell you what Shockie dude. If you showed that same effect without an fps display, people wouldnt be any the wizer, and go core blimey guv, would you look at that.
Personally I think it's very cool indeed.
-
Thanks Xteraco, cheers Clyde.
Well I've done some work on it, I don't really want to spoil the surprise of the finished intro (which will take a few weeks) but I'll post one shot of it burning an icosohedra, it looks much nicer in action though.
-
Very impressive, please dont post any more tasty piccies, I love surprises. :D
-
Looking good, can't wait for the final prod !

Preview available in the admin forum ;)
-
Wow, a burning D&D dice!!! Eh eh ehhe he he :D
I am really curious to see your demo in the near future..
-
Lol, I've never played D+D in my life.
The intro will be a couple of weeks as there are a few things I want to burn with the fire routine, it's good fun though!
-
Will this be a sequel to AD dude?
-
No, though I had thought about doing one at some time in the future.
-
7-10 FPS
750 mhz duron
-
Jeez, it must look terrible at that speed!
-
Nope! Arse slow but looks amazing!!!!
-
That looks amazing :o
I got 20 - 30 fps
athlon 1800+
gf4mx440
512MB DDR
-
Thanks Azrael, the demo is nearly finished now, just waiting on some music and I have a few small tweaks to make, cheers for the specs and FPS and :hi: to the board :)
-
Indeed :hi: Azrael, btw very impressed with your Demo Compo a few years back.
Back on topic: Looks real clever mate.
-
Indeed :hi: Welcome Azrael, btw very impressed with your Demo Compo a few years back.
T]-[X :)
But you didn't mistake me for somebody else?
Thanks Azrael, the demo is nearly finished now, just waiting on some music and I have a few small tweaks to make, cheers for the specs and FPS and :hi: Welcome to the board :)
I'm looking forward to your release. I'm quite new on these topics - hope to learn a lot from your codes :)
ps: sry for my english
-
70-80fps here. V.pretty!
3GHz P4, Radeon X1600AGP.
Jim
