The site retro-remakes.net is currently being re-coded with a custom built portal, It is being coded by Tetra and I can say without any hesitation at all that it really is a fabulous site, it will provide what the remakes really demanded from the start, and that is a nice portal where people can download quality win32 remakes and comment and vote on them.
The smf forum that is currently there is going to go, my thanks to Tetra for the hard work he is doing in building the site, but the site needs logos!
So far I managed to get some nice promises of artwork from some really cool scene artists, but a bird in the hand as they say...
I would really like to recieve nice qualitly logos (to the standard on pouet or intro inferno) in the following dimensions;
600px wide, 200px high background colour #000000
The more we get, the better it will be :)
Cheers!
-
background colour #000000
please reconsider that.
-
Hehe, I am fabulously bad at selecting colours.
Well, the background is black at the moment.. I guess that the site will keep a dark background (maybe not pure black then, but surely almost black at least) because it needs to look really oldschool.
Any art could be in png format with a transparrent background and it will look fine on the site :) cheers!
-
Well dont know if this meets your quality standards or not.... anyway offerd up for consideration.
-
Smart :)
Can we use it please please please? :)
Thanks mate.
K+++++ !
-
Yes use it :)
-
Quality :)
I will give it to Tetra as soon as I see him online, I'll post here to let you know when it's added.
It's in perfect keeping with the site. Thanks once again :)
-
Right up there! K+ Ghost!
Jim

The logo looks wonderful on the site Ghost!
-
This is an early WIP. Hopefully it looks "retro" enough. I'll have to work in a background layer for the color you want. ;)
I wanted to include the staple effects- sinus scroller, plasma and vector cube. All wrapped in C64 flavor.
-
Hmmm..
Well the background of the site is Black.. But I have an idea, it's up to you if you want to make it..
How about coding something and saving it as an animated GIF ?
Don't use too many colours because it should not be too big, the logo you have there so far unfortunately would not be usable, this really is one for the artists!
But like I said, you could code something to produce an animated gif? That would rock.

Ahh so you are using .gif. I should have asked what kind of format you wanted. No worries about too many colors I usualy go oldschool.
My goal there was to do something retro looking as the site title would sugest. I don't mind scrapping it but what kind of logo are you looking for? Obveously anything retro enough will have a smaller color palette. I might just have to go back to hand pixeling something in paint, too many whistles and bells in Photoshop, not to mention it insists that everything have at least 300 colors in it. I guess I'm making assumptions though. Do you want something low color? I've made classic sprites for a long time now but I want to try logo making.
What sort of things are you looking for?
-
You mis-understand me mate, sorry.
With the greatest respect, coder art usually looks good to coders.
Unfortunately we have rejected several logos already because they were not up to the standard we wanted.
Usable formats are:
png, jpg, gif
If it was Gif then possibly you could code some kind of effect and save it as a Gif which of course could be animated?

Started something:

But hasn't got style yet.
Might be continued - or trashed.
(using 3DS Max)
-
Looks cool. Is it raytraced?
-
Oh my.
:o Looks wonderful already!
I do hope you finish it!
-
looks really cool :D
It doesn't look really retro though, but it DOES look really cool :)
-
Looks amazing indeed, Hellfire.
I would like to play with the camera angle though. Maybe a
bit more centered and lower - and then simply add the
missing word "REMAKES" in simple font style beneath it.
Looking forward to see final version!

It looks very nice. You might consider some hints of orange in places to offset the blue. Maybe some ambiant reflections with some small hints of orange. Then again it might not work at all just some color theroy.

Not really happy with it, though...
-
wow cool ! the Orange color really adds a lot of "color depth" to the final image !
-
Jesus hellfire i love it m8 :goodpost:
I can't believe 3dsmax is this good
My stuff never looks like this :(
-
in my opinion lose the reflection of the chessboard and reduce transparency a bit maybe :goodpost:ade the glass shader with some color
-
I too think that the orange really makes those letters feel more 3d the key is the color contrast between orange and blue. Would the program let you sort of map some transparent environmental textures on top of the letters while keeping them glassy? You might use the orange there rather than a direct shadow. Overall *very* nice.

Yup - that's how I thought it could look like. Maybe you could
darken out the chessfield at the border - so it fades to black.
Like putting another big light/spot in the center ... but don't know
if this looks good.
Anyway, I think now it looks more like a logo that can be used at
the top of a page.
Like my 2cts. I like it!
-
Blue/Orange kind of reminds me of the colour scheme h2o uses in most of his stuff, I prefered the blue cold look myself. It looks damned nice anyway :)
-
Well, we have 6 logos so far :)
Thanks to Jizzy, Ghost and Dicab for them, it means a lot!

should it have voting which one to pick? :)
-
MR The Punishers, I believe they are logos that are allready submitted and are used at the site Retro Remakes.
-
Clyde is right, they are all in use :)
-
I also wanted to make one just for fun, I doubt its good enough for the site.
-
Nevertheless, it's not that bad. Thanks for having a try Spitfire :) Have some good karma.
