Hey guese Im first to put together an entry, well here it is. This is done in ps2Yabasic you will need an emulator in order to run it get the emulator here.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~jimshaw/Yabasic/ps2yabasic1.6b3.zip
Open the file "[PLANTLIFE]REGROWTH.txt" in the emulator
Then select run program > run
Press escape to exit at any time
Edit - Updated sky motion based on Xalthorns sin scroll suggestion and speeded up the code a little too while I was at it. Im much more happy with this now. Thanks for the motivation Xalthorn

I am a little bit startled at how much you have gotten into a yabasic program here which after all has no bitmap gfx support...
Great trees, great scroller, great animated birds!
Worth getting the emulator to see what can be done with Yabasic.
-
look very nice
-
The scroller is great!

What Jim said :D

what rbz said :P :D

Hey, I tried Yabasic, it's mad, there are no bitmap graphics! I cant believe how you made all those plants look so nice.
-
Thanks guys Im glad you liked this :)
But if you think this looks nice you should take a look at the Yabasic repositry some fabulous stuff in there

Great work Rain Storm 8)
-
I'll examine this today. From the description, it sounds a lot like mine.
I hope I don't get yelled at for copying :(
(edit)
Looking at them side by side, I see they are totally different, so for now I'm safe.
However, it seems I'll have to up my game before I have an ice cube's chance in a volcano of winning this.
Great work!

Love the effect but excuse me for being rude or wrong - is it supposed to run really really slowly? I have a P4 3Ghz and it seems to run vey slowly?
Have I got something set wrong.

-
It should run really fast. Try tinkering with some of the refresh options in the player.

Hi DrewPee, as Jim said, you need to edit the refrsh rate. To do that you need to select Edit -> options
you will see a tab open with an option for syncing to the monitors refresh rate, syncing to 50Hz (PS2) and no sync. Play with those options
-
Is that the 1.6b version? All I can find online is a variant of version 1.5, but I have 1.6b at home, so I'll try that.
-
That is beautiful, loads of things crammed in but in a very nice way.
I like the way the sky changes colour including a sun and moon drifting across the sky.
I can't help feeling that if you had popped those on a circle to make them rise and fall, it might add something.
For example (very crude code, doesn't synch with your demo yet, but it's only for demonstration)
In your sky subroutine, if you added a couple of lines to increase a sunrise variable like this
heavenscroll = 0.4
sunrise=sunrise+heavenscroll
if sunrise>360 then sunrise=sunrise-360 fi
sunscroll = sunscroll + heavenscroll
and then changed the sun drawing line to
x=sin(sunrise*pi/180)*240+RESX/2
y=cos(sunrise*pi/180)*200+RESY/2
gcircle(x,y, 32, 255,127,063, 255,255,127)
Then the sun nearly behaves as we'd expect. It's not amazing, but it might help.
You can put the moon on the opposite side of the circle so that they rotate together. The trick would be to get them to line up with the sky colour change.
Please don't get me wrong, I love your demo, it's just that the sun and moon scrolling across doesn't do it for me, especially as you've taken the effort to change the sky brightness at the horizon.

->CK - He linked to 1.63b in the first post. The 1.5 versions are rubbish!

@Xalthorn I had considered that but the arch is so wide that it needed a really shallow sin value or the sun/moon wouldnt stay within the screen limits. I used only 256 pixels of sky but the width is like +/-768 or something. The sky must be that width or else the scrolling text doesnt sync to sunrise. I couldnt pull it off so I dropped it and focused on the scroller. Nice to see someone taking an interest in the source code though, did you notice that I tried to make it win32yabasic compatible? not a single gtriangle in there. had to drop that too cos the framerate sucked. Would have been nice if I could have it binded to the interpreter.
-
Well there is no reason why you can't have it follow an ellipse, simply have the x movement faster than the y. The trick might be finding the right increment to the SIN though.
I'm seriously impressed by what you've managed to achieve with this, I love the flower text and the birds are simple but extremely effective.
-
You know what I think youve talked me into having another go at it.
that worked a treat Xalthorn worth some karma I think ;D
first post is updated with final release
-
I'm glad I could help :D

Doh! It's me not reading things properly again. Thanks Jim.

That update has made quite a difference Rain Storm.
I just sat here and watched it in full screen mode for 10 minutes with some amiga music playing in the background!
This is one of the best designed Yabasic demos I have seen.
-
Rain Storm,
the update is fantastic - it works great on my machine now - very impressive.
Regards
DrewPee
-
Glad you liked the updates people and thanks for the nice message Shocky
Very glad that the speed optimisations worked for you DrewPee. In future I will make sure to test my code at 50Hz
-
The style is really nice. The whole sceen feels alive.
-
Great entry, rain_storm!
:clap:
-
Update worked here too, now it is more speedy and window resize don't screw display up anymore.
Absolutely fantastic trees and hills...stars!
Flowers in the Scroller fade nicely when they appear from right and when they go off-screen, neat effect! :kewl:
-
Nice but slow.
-
This is one of the best things I've ever seen done in YAB. Amazing how alive it seems. Well done, Rain.
