Title: Bug Reports
Post by: Shockwave on July 20, 2008
I've moved a lot of data.. I tried to eliminate data loss and keep it 100% intact, however, it was a huge, huge task.

Please record any bugs you encounter with this community in this topic only, spam replies will be deleted.

Thanks.

I got this - when trying to access the arcade:

Quote
An Error Has Occurred!
You are not allowed to access arcade.

Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Shockwave on July 20, 2008
The arcade tests to see if you are a guest at first, guests are not allowed to play the arcade.

I just checked the permissions for moderators though and I set your permissions so hopefully thats fixed for you now.

There's only one theme available for both default and the one to choose from which is Azure.

Clicking on links to other topics in the forums (in old posts from the other host?), leads to the placeholder page.

Also in code tags Tabs show up as a funny A. http://dbfinteractive.com/forum/index.php?topic=73.msg382#msg382

Tabs showing up funny
- you mean like a ^ over an A?
Nasty.  Somehow a unicode file got turned into an ascii file without a good transform.

Looks like the same problem.  Nasty.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Shockwave on July 21, 2008
Hmm... Unicode :(

Thats a horrible bug.

It will not affect new code postings, as it's right throught the messages database I will have to make a script at some point to go through it and turn them all into spaces :(

In the meantime, people will have to manually delete the tabs out of the listings or use search and replace in thier ide.

This is because I had to change the directory structure of the website, so not only was the whole forum moved, it has been put into it's own directory to allow me to work on the portal (which will go where the place holder page is at the moment).

That's because you press "5" to start, not "1" ;)

Got this:

Quote
Database Error
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator

after playing Apple Shooter several times.

Btw. I noticed that each highscore is saved in the highscore list. Wasn't it
that way that only the personal highest score was saved - so there is only
once score of each user in the highscore list ???
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Shockwave on July 21, 2008
You got the database error probably because you clicked back on the browser to play the game. You should not really do that, just click the play button (the game is cached and should load fast).

The arcade treats scores differently now btw, I could change it so it only saves one score per player (as it was) but thought it would be more fun to have several as the comments in the score table have more meaning then.

Submission of scores is different now, it's more secure.
It was theoretically possible to cheat before, it's much more difficult now.

Bear in mind that cheating in that way was basically php injection, I was not really comfortable about people being able to inject code into the site in that way so I had to upgrade the arcade.

Cheers for the bug report :)

File attachments -
If you are making two different posts at the same time but one of them has a file attached when you send the posts whichever post was sent first has the files attached regardless of what post it was attached to. found this out while I was making a new topic in yabasic I was midway through formatting that post and attached the source code then got bored and posted in the time game. my source code was sent to time game instead
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Shockwave on July 24, 2008
Thats actually an SMF bug, it would be hard to fix too because of the way that a message board proceses post forms.

Think about it, if you attach a file and initialise a variable with it then no matter what post form you submit the file will be attached.

:) Maybe they'd like to know about it on the SMF forums.

When viewing the forum under Safari 2.0.4, all the text input fields and text boxes have a tiny height of only a few pixels.

I'll try upgrading to a newer version of Safari.

Something I noticed the other day in the profile section, is that the current forum time equals the date.

Go into profile and then -> look and layout preferences. Near to where it says Time Offset, theres text that says "Current Forum Time" and it has the date.

When I go into the Arcade and select a game, I get this message:

You have not installed Adobe Flash Player, you need install it before you can play, you also need to have javascript enabled. Install

But I have Adobe Flash Player allready installed plus Javascript enabled.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Shockwave on July 28, 2008
The arcade definately works on lots and lots of peoples computers Clyde, I think you have a problem with your own computer. Maybe your security settings are blocking java, maybe you dont have a flash player thats up to date enough.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Clyde on July 28, 2008
Ok mate thanks. I've just installed the new flash and java, maybe it takes time to register it in IE.
Title: Re: Bug Reports

Close your browser and restart it again (preferably reset your computer) and it should work. :)

Hi there Shocky.  Just to let you know the scores are not being recorded on Giana Sisters
Title: Re: Bug Reports

You have recorderd 4 scores on that game already so it must be working?
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: rain_storm on July 29, 2008
I have the same issue as Clyde the arcade is telling me to install flash and java. When I try to install the flash player it tells me that I already have the latest version (9.0.124.0) I did need to update my version of java for my desktop but my laptop was already fully updated for both java and flash. I have restarted windows and still cant play any games with either my PC or my laptop. I am using the latest IE for both PC + Laptop. is there something else I may need to install.
Title: Re: Bug Reports
Post by: Shockwave on July 29, 2008
I don't understand why you're getting that error then guys.

I am sure that the problem is on your computers. They must be blocking something and the arcade giving that error message.

I tried to duplicate clydes error message so I removed IE and re-installed it, I got the same message, once I had installed the required components and started a fresh instance of IE it worked again..

Wierd eh?

Still a bit baffled about forum time.

If you check out our last 2 posts to the Time Game thread, the time stamped on my post is 8 hours ahead of here, and 1 hour behind you.  I think that means the forum isn't on British summer time.

Also, I know we've sanitised the times on the forum posts to protect the 'innocent' but it would be cool if the time top right in the banner had the full forum time (or better still MY local time) and not just the date.

Nothing big, I think these niggles were there on plan A. :)

This baffles me because the time is spot on here ???

I'll have a look and see if I can change the dtae stamp on the banner to show the time too.. Not sure how to do that yet though.

Cheers Jim :)

I'm not sure - I didn't check it before the move.

I'll test it with my forum. I think we're both using the same version of SMF.

Title: Re: Bug Reports

I wonder what had caused the problem because I haven't made any changes here to fix that issue..

Browsers are all different, I guess it's just a compatibility problem.

Title: Re: Bug Reports

Sometimes I get a lag, but that's part and parcel of shared hosting mate.

This host is fster than the last one, however if this is a wider problem, please let me know and I'll do what I can to sort things out, even if it's just optimising the database.

Passed couple of days, i've not been able to get to this fab site, also I've been kicked off, whilst looking at different pages. It might, just be happening to me, but I thought i'd share it with you, incase others are also having any problems like me.
Title: Re: Bug Reports

Thanks Clyde,

There have been on going issues with the server, they are being fixed I am assured.

If you get a problem like that my advice to you is to try again after about 20 minutes.

These problems are temporary and will be resolved :)

Ok cool, thanks for the info.

Dont suppose there's anyway of fixing the bug with the odd A Character when there's a tab in source code listings?
