Hello
As most of you already know - I am in the process of finding premises for my Retro Computer Museum . . . website is now fully working and is a true masterpiece thanks to Shockwave. Our open day is also looking to be a winner as quite a few people have already confirmed that they will be coming.
Now onto the cheeky bit, would anybody be willing to help me do an intro/demo to publicise the open day/museum? I sort of know what I want and will elaborate on this but just wondered if any of you wonderful people on here would help me out? I understand that you are all busy people so don't worry if not.
Regards
DrewPee - Andy

Andy,
I do not have tons of time these days, but depending on what you want, it can be done within minutes (if I reuse some code). Any details are welcome
-
@stormbringer
Thanks for coming back to me so soon . . . thanks!
My idea is. . . a matrix sort of start with 0's and 1's going down the screen in blue instead of green tho to match the RCM website.
then this fading out to show the RCM logo with the words open day underneath . . . they some sort of demo to give details . . . (this i will leave open for somebody to design). I like the thought of 0's and 1's . . . does it make sense to use that?
Andy
-
like in the movie? hmm hehe I'd like to give it a try... let me see what I can do
-
Yeah. FX sounds cool and matrix-like. Looking
forward to see it.
-
I released a demo on RCM the other day, quite basic but it was just to invite people . . . an invitro? lol?
I have attached it - see what you all think?
Regards
Andy (DrewPee)
ps - some info
Music was written by me quite a few years ago on my Amiga 500 in octamed!?!?!??!?
Font and Starfield by me. Some code Rbraz and some of Shockwaves . . . thanks guys!
-
Not bad at all dude, congrats on your first invitro :)
Like the way you've only made the stars go into the rcm logo.
Welldone on the tune too.
Cheers,
Clyde.
-
I really appreciate your effort but I honestly doubt that it will motivate many people to visit your site.
An "invitation" to your project's website should feature some more "retro" flavor.
-
hellfire,
Trouble is with that it would take me too long to code . . . the open day is in november. I don't have a lot of spare time to code to be honest!
Andy
-
There are so many talented coders around here - nobody wants to help you out on that?
-
I think alot of people are on their holidays, judging by the amount of people roaming the board.
Im a bit pre-occupied at the moment, so I cant be of much use, but maybe if I can manage it before November, I'll let you know via pm.
Im presumming that you havent been coding long DrewPee dude, for your first prod it isnt bad at all.
One suggestion I have, is to use a bigger font for your scroller at the top. And see if you can add a sin & cos motion to it, experiment, if it doesnt fit the style then no harm in trying. You may also find a text writter around here.
Cheers,
Clyde.
-
Clyde,
I have been using freebasic on and off for a couple of years now but not really had too much time to spend on it!!?? Been coding for a lot longer than that though . . . so i guess it is still early days in freebasic for me.
Andy
-
Ooopsie, forgot about that dude - ( I blame my old age :D ). Should of spotted that in your signature too.
Hope the open day goes swimmingly; which Im sure it will.
Cheers,
Clyde.

anybody be willing to help me do an intro/demo to publicise the open day/museum?
any news on this?
-
Erm no, it seems to have gone a little quiet. CombatKing has done a superb flash poster though! As for demo's, I wrote one but it wasn't that good to be honest and I don't have enought time to spend on another one. I have so much to get ready for the RCM Retro Gaming Event - Open Day - it takes more orgainising than I thought! Lol!
Andy
-
Too bad to hear that.
Just in case I find any spare time (which will certainly not be the case before the end of next week): What style are you looking for, what hardware is it supposed to run on and what's the size-limit? I'm not promising anything though.
-
Sorry but thats just not fair.
Lots of people have bent over backwards to help you out Andy, it's just untrue to say things have gone quiet.
-
No, you got me wrong - I am not complaining - a lot of people are helping - and of course I am grateful for any help that I do get.
Sorry if I appeared to be complaining! Im not- believe me, I never expected to get half of the support that I have received both on here, on the RCM website and elsewhere.
Apologies
Andy
-
Check the donors page on RCM to see how much help has really gone into this. Quite a lot of the people listed there will be familiar.
I would have offered to make an invitation demo for the open day myself but I am busy with additional programming to the RCM website.
Reading the posts in this thread from 18th September makes it look like you were abandoned here Andy, I guess that was not how you meant it to come across but it's how it could be read and I won't have that.
The people here have been very, very good to you.
-
Yeah I know what you mean Nick! Fair enough - and you are right but i don't think very, very good cuts it - I have made some superb friends both on here and on RCM. I would like to personally say now, for the record to everybody who has helped in any way - thank you, RCM would not be where it is today without you.
Andy
-
What style are you looking for, what hardware is it supposed to run on and what's the size-limit?
-
Sorry Hellfire!
It needs to run on todays hardware but look a little retro . . . no size limit to be honest - it will be running as an intro on the day instead of being an invitro now?
Something to show what we are trying to do . . . Im not helping much here am I?
Basically the Retro Computer Museum is eventually going to be a 'real life' museum. At the moment is it online only. We are looking for premises but are struggling to find something that is a) big enough) and b) cheap enough and c) cheap enough !! I know the last two are the same but that is the main thing at the moment, we don't have loads of money ourselves, the bank would be willing to help out if we find premises that are suitable?!?? We are looking on a daily basis.
Andy
-
That's all rather vague and I'm not very much into that "retro-style" either, so I'll just try something and you decide if want it or not.
it will be running as an intro on the day instead of being an invitro now?
Isn't there still a month left?
needs to run on todays hardware
So I can expect some sort of 3d-acceleration?
-
16th of November is the open day I think, unless Andy changed it?
-
Thanks Hellfire! I do appreciate it!
and thanks Nick for that vital point!
Andy
-
I'm just working on some text-overlays.
What important information do you want to share?
-
@Hellfire,
Apologies for not posting earlier, i have been picking up donations!
The text should read something like this
"Welcome to the first RCM Retro Gaming Event, we hope everybody enjoys themselvers and has fun but please respect the hardware when using. If you need any help or information please ask either Andy (AndyRCM), Dave (PheonixTLB) or the respective hardware owners. Refreshments are available in the front room - please see Linda. Have Fun - Let's make it a great day!"
Andy

I would love to see this as an invite as you know. It will probably get a lot of people interested in coming, especially knowing the quality of Hellfire's work.
Anyway, I've said all I want to say on this, both here and in private, I'll just wait for the intro and enjoy it when it comes.
Thanks Hellfire for supporting this project, K+
-
@Shockwave,
I know where you are coming from - apologies for earlier! I will talk to you later, okay?
@Hellfire,
As as intro, could we have some text saying the following:
"RCM Retro Gaming Event. 16th November 2008. A retro gaming event to bring together like-minded individuals to have a laugh, a chat and a game or two on some retro systems!, to also raise the awareness of our Retro Computer Museum which is online only at the moment but will eventually be a real place to visit. Further details can be found on our website: www.retrocomputermuseum.co.uk"
Thanks again Hellfire - this is superb of you to do this.

Is this banner available in a lossless format?
I would like to use it for the settings-dialouge...
-
What format is best for you hellfire? I think I still have the original photoshop file here somewhere?
Andy
-
The format doesn't matter, it just shouldn't contain those jpeg-artefacts ;)
If you have something that can be used as a file-icon (16x16 and 32x32), that would be cool, too.
-
Here's the site logos in png format.

Don't know if they are any good?
The original sketch of the logo is in adobe, if it can't be found I can see if Dicab still has it.
-
@Shockwave, thanks for those.
@Hellfire - please find attached a png of the banner - is this okay?
Thanks guys!
Andy

works fine:

Im intrigued . . . :P
Andy

Unluckily I had to spend some long hours at work for the whole last week to fix some problems which should have been long gone :P
So I sadly didn't find time to make much progress; however, I'll try to get it finished until the end of the week...
-
Unluckily I had to spend some long hours at work for the whole last week to fix some problems which should have been long gone :P
I never thought I'd ever say this to anybody... I am quite envious.
It's so mind numbingly boring sitting here getting fat and doing nothing.
I'd offer to swap but you'd certailny have more problems to go back to than when you left ;)
-
Oh, there's no need to be envious, Shocky! You're always welcome to do my work. I love to share ;D
-
@hellfire,
I can't thank you enough for doing this to be honest - it will be ready when it is ready! Thank you again!
-
I'm really distraught to tell that I can't finish it in time.
I had been off from work for a week with a tooth-root inflammation and actually tried to get something done in that time but it seems like pharmaceuticals derogate my coding-efficiency by a perceptible amount :P

Sorry to hear that.. That sounds really painful and I hope you are feeling better soon.
-
Thanks mate :)
It's really unpleasant but your leg is still leading by two orders of magnitude ;)
-
@hellfire,
No problems matey, hope you feel better soon - thank you for your hard work - if you do get to finish it sometime it would still very much be appreciated!
