So I'm saving my ass off, with the grand plan of heading to the country of my ancestors heritage.
The plan is simple so far... save about 10K Australian, book some flights early next year, belt over to Ireland round about September, spend 1 month exploring, and then exhausted and broke, head home to the wife and kids.
This'll be my first excursion outside of Oz, and I'd appreciate some advice on some cool shit to check out.
I'm thinking Guinness factory, some castles, some Irish pubs, some travel to neighbouring countries. What are some must sees? But my mental list seems too... touristy. What are some recommended sights, places or people to see?
I'd fucking beyond love to go to a top notch (<-not an actual requirement) demo party somewhere in Scandanavia, or Finland, Germany. I always thought of it as too far, too expensive, and too unrealistic. Australia is like bum fuck Idaho to the scene, a really long way from Europe, in the middle of nowhere.
.... I really wanna see Venice before I die... how far is that from Ireland? Fuck it I'll hire a pushy and ride there. Everything's close in Europe.

About 3-4 hours on a plane.
Ireland's very pretty but I'm not sure how much there is to do beyond what you've already said. I went to Waterford to the crystal factory, which was a good day out. You ought to go and have a proper pint of (warm) Kilkenny in Kilkenny, and a good stout from pretty much anywhere will blow away any Guinness you've ever tried :)

You can get a cheap ferry to GB too if you are staying in ireland.
If I were going to Ireland on a month's jolly I woud take a fishing rod with me, the fishing for bass and pollack over there is tremendous and there are lots of B+B's who's owners will cook what you catch for you. Because of the nature of Ireland it's possible to find sheltered fishing in many of the bays no matter which way the wind is blowing.
Ok, it's not going to be as good as Oz, but it would be cool for you to try your luck :)
Visit a real Irish pub and have a real Irish Coffee too. It's a really nice country.

If you're visiting Dublin, you should visit The Gravediggers. Proper Irish pub that. Plus of course, more touristy things are like the Blarney stone and the Giant's causeway.

For tourist sights the cliffs of Moher or Dingle in Kerry. You might like to have a drink in Durty Nellys in Clare its right next to Bunratty Castle.
