Title: At sundown :)
Post by: Shockwave on September 13, 2008
Well, we are here now, so far there are quite a lot of people in the hall, I am guessing about 50 so far.

Rc55 is being a great host, projection screen is awesome, there is a smaller projector too where people are playing their demos.

Nice to be at a party again after 17 years!

Anyway, here are some photos..

First pic is gooner (thats vodka in the bottle)
Second pic is Dave (phoenix) on the left and Andy (Drewpee) on the right, big screen advertising lunch behind!
Third pic  is gooner collapsing after the neat vodka.
Forth pic is
Drewpe left, phoenix center and myself right.

Seems like the internet here is a little bit s-l-o-w, music competition starts about 5:30pm, no ideas on when the other comps are atm..

The big screen is really nice though.. Cant wait to see the demos.

Welcome back from Spain Benny :)

Well I have had a few hours sleep now so I will write what I had trouble typing during the party because the internet connection was really choked and it was hard to stay connected sometimes.

Sundown 2008 was the first demo scene party that I have been to for 17 years, I really didn't know what would have changed but I was really pleasantly surprised to see that the old feeling was still there.

When I got to Budleigh I found it to be a really peaceful village / small town, the venue is really perfect for a party of this kind of size, I guess that there were around 60 - 70 sceners there alltogether.

There was enough space for everyone to set up their systems, as far as I am aware, no gear was stolen, there were internet hubs in the gaps through the desks so that those who were having problems with the Wi-Fi could plug straight in.

Everything was kept clean and tidy, there was free tea and coffee in the venue, there were fridges and cooking facilities available (we all had use of the kitchen).

Even better , there was a nice atmosphere at the venue, rc55 couldn't have been more welcoming than he was, in fact he was a really great host along with waffle who kept things moving along.

The comps were fun too, there were a few gaffs with some demos that wouldn't work first time, but that only added to the atmosphere :)

It was great to meet people there and even better to see some folks from here going along :) I will definately be attending Sundown next year, it's a small party and it has it's quirks but there is a really great atmosphere and the organisers really do go out of their way to make sure that everyone enjoys the party.

Definately reccommended and I'll be entering the oldschool comp next year and the newschool demo too probably :) Hopefully we can get more members from here along to the next one :)

That sounds definately great. Never been to a real demo party before - but the
location, size and atmosphere sounds definately like a party with the true spirit.

If there are more pictures available - I guess we who didnt have the chance to
visit the party would love to see them ;-)

Wow what a fantastic day yesterday we had at Sundown
I'd definitely recommend anybody thinking about going next year to start  making your plans now.

It was great to meet up with other members of this forum such as Drewpee,Phoenix Tlb and Hotshot. It would be nice to see more of you there next year and produce something for the occasion. It was such a chilled out day and the time just flew (nothing to do with the vodka). The fact not every thing ran smoothly actually added to the event and the overall atmosphere as Shockie previously said.Rc55 and his assistants couldn't have been more helpful and were great host.Cant wait for next year hic

Yep just to say the same as everyone else it was a fantastic do, great to finally meet people behind the names, Gooner, Hotshot and Shockwave, all thoroughly top dudes.

The venue was perfect, nice facilities and free use of the kitchen which was well equipped. Lots of room to spread out, great atmosphere which in a large part was due to rc55's quips while trying to get the compos to run on time  ;D

I hope Shocky/Gooner you got back fine, it was a late drive for you, and I hope Hotshot you had a safe trip.

The museum aquired some great stuff as well which was a bonus (thanks also to Gooner for the PS2).

And a final snippet of info divulged by our b&b host:
Did you know Budleigh Salterton was the 1st place in the UK to have a Nudist Beach!  :carrot:

Hello everyone,

It was good meeting people such Gooner, Hotshot and Shockwave, DrewPee, PhoenixTLB. I had to get used to understanding people on  face to face then I manage it quite well. The background noise does affect me when I watch people lips when come to talking.

All in all  it was Enjoyable Sundown 2008

Roll on Sundown 2009   :carrot:

I really want to say that Hotshot really put himself out to get to the party.. He just got on a bus and headed in the general direction, I got your message Hotshot, I do hope that you managed to get home safe and sound?

@Akeo, yeah, there seemed to be no teenagers at all, everyone was from our era :)

I am ok now and sundown was new experience for me. I talk to people and they were showing me different linux which I found it interesting and yes it is much better than Window xp!!

I spoke to man who made atari st demo and he showing me the GFX Demo effect which was impressive. Man who code was saying that he made in C++ as he made look so easy!(The reason he made it look so easy because he been doing c++ for years!)

so if people want go to Sundown for next year which is OCTOBER 2009 and hopefully it will be even better than last time!

More people who on the forum on here to visit the sundown next year would be great.   :updance:

I must ask, what was the syntax for addressing each other? Real names or handles?  O0

If I have the money for Train Fares and organize myself, there could be a chance I'll go next year and there's nothing penciled in my diary for next year.

Btw did any of you meet other people from other groups? Were the UK Scene All Stars there?
I know that Hotshot met Hotshot. :D

And another question, what were the releases like at Sundown? As I havent seen any.

Cheers,
Clyde.

Hi all!

You can address people by whatever you want. I mixed handles with real names the entire weekend mainly because I didn't know both for everyone.

I'm always the taxi service and collect people from the train & bus stations when required and I can also take people back at the end of the party so if anyone is going next year - remember and stay in contact!

A taxi from Exeter to Budleigh (and back) can be quite expensive and I do it at a fraction of the cost - just a small donation to cover petrol.
