Recently I decided to dust off my model A 64 and play some games on the real thing. Emulators are great, but nothing can beat playing the games on the real thing imho. I didn't want to hack together special cables or anything, so I was initially recording games back to tape from my PC, but that was a little pants. So now I have written a tiny app to run on my NDS that takes a PRG, P00 or T64 file and converts it back to it's sound equivalent (remember all though lovely beeps and whistles when playing a computer tape! ;) ). This allows me to hook up one those tape adaptors that are usually used to connect CD and MP3 players to car tape players. Works a treat. And because it's a digital source I have been able to lower the amount of clock cycles for each pulse so that it loads games almost twice as fast as the old super turbo loaders! (like the Action Replay etc). I just wondered if any others here are doing similar things and how they go about achieving it. ;D

I don't know if anyone else goes to the same sort of lengths as that to get the full experience, but I guess that it's down to how much you love those old games.. And of course, emulation can't be perfect..
Going to a scene party would interest you I think Statmat, just thinking back to Sundown, there were some really ingenious setups for old systems. In particular, Ichabod's Spectrum was super cool! Flash drives and a kick ass sound system! It sounded fucking great tbh!

YEAH!!!... That's damn GOOD dude! :diablo:

There is just quite few projects over the net, i think i've read that someone else uses TAP/P00/T64 onto a CD-Rom player to send back tape dumps to C64 but I can't sincerely tell where I read about it, sorry :'(.
i think that there is only one real solution at you question, point your browser http://www.luigidifraia.com/c64/dc2n/index.html (http://www.luigidifraia.com/c64/dc2n/index.html) ... this project seems very promising but, unfortunately :telloff: , the developer doesn't seem too interested to give away full assembled projects.
Older things would be http://www.funet.fi/pub/cbm/transfer/CBM-to-PC/ser64_80.zip (http://www.funet.fi/pub/cbm/transfer/CBM-to-PC/ser64_80.zip).
For the ones (like me) who have A LOT of faith in the future there could be a very nice project called :updance: 1541-Ultimate :updance: you can find here: http://www.1541ultimate.net/content/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7&Itemid=20 (take a loot at the specifications).
There are many other interesting things out there, you jus need to find the time to dig deeper and deeper the net and find'em! ;D
other projects (not tape oriented but vey interesting) you'll find here: :whisper:

Actually I own a Catweasel MK-IV, a real good piece of HW indeed... but that's for Floppy disks only, while StatMat looks for Tape based solutions... isn't it?

Yeah, I was gutted that I couldn't attend Sundown. But I am sure I'll be there next time! ;)

@Moroboshisan: Wow, you seem very knowledgeable about this stuff. The info provided will keep me happy for hours! K++
And yes, I decided to do this tape stuff as I felt that would be the easiest setup without any additional hardware. But some of the stuff you pointed to is much sexier than my simple solution! ;D

Glad to read that! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
...and ... yes... I'm a really BIG fan of C64 (I was lucky enough to have one as xmas-present in '83)... but i'm not that "knowledgeable" as you said... i simply just know my couple of things... no more no less: 8)
