Here's a quickie from me to start off with :)

Cool! The motion-blur and colour-scheme make it pretty authentic.
I think it's more LCD (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Color-LCD_Display_Macro-View.jpg) than LED, though.
How about adding some glow to the brighter lights?

Hehe yeah I guess I could have made the graphics look more like LCDs :)
In my childhood I remember there being a shop on the way to the town center, it was just a converted house but it had a sign like this (without the dot ball), the sign had this text that used to blink off and on, the lights were orange. Only when you got up quite close to the window you'd notice that it was made out of little LED's.
Back then it was really unusual to see such a sign, it must have cost them a few quid.

i think it might have looked better with a diffrent color system maybe a bit more viberant red and id like to have seen the led's slightly bigger and rounded, but its definitly cool for a first go!

That's really cool, I love it.
However, the black dots in the sphere (normal of 0?) spoil it for me. Perhaps either ignore those points or after you've done the normal calculation for brightness, add a static value to bring the 0 values to the value of the 'inactive' LEDs?

may i suggest a colorchange in the ball a really smooth one, those days leds come in many colors so there are a lot of color variations to choose from.

It looks kind of different now. Pointless me showing it yet as it still has a way to go, but needless to say that it is in 3D and in opengl. :)
