MAGNIFICATION CHALLENGE

Welcome to the MAGNIFICATION Challenge!

This has been the first challenge for a while, and after a long time thinking back to my school days I thought of an old experiment we once did, the experiment was called "Brownian Motion" and it was the study of particles through a microscope, in the experiment, smoke particles were placed into a sealed environment and the environment was viewed through a microscope, you could see the smoke particles being punched around by the air molecules.

Here's a video of Brownian Motion that I found on Youtube, this one has a red laser shining through it and it looks quite like a demo effect :)

Some other things I found while looking for suitable subject matter are below:

WHITE BLOOD CELLS

BACTERIA

PROTOZOA

FLAGELLA AND CILIA

You can choose to show anything that you would see through a microscope, or maybe even an everyday item that is greatly magnified., Perhaps you'll make an Amoeba which goes on the hunt for other bacteria, maybe you'll simulate some of the microscopic life that exists under the ocean.

Here are the rules!

Here are the prizes!

Good luck!

That sounds fantastic. Really like the comp's theme - and I think you
really put up a cool description about the contest and adding the
video footage is truley inspiring.

Setting the deadline to late July is a good idea - so everybody has got
enough time to enter this challenge.

Let the battle begin  8)

Magnification? The possibilities for a little AI and some probability based quantumn physics are definitely there.

Now to code... :xmas:

Interesting theme.
You might find some inspiration in Protozoa (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=9471) and We Cell (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=13028).

I haven't really come up with anything much yet. I tried a couple of things that didn't quite work out. I am still poking around though. :)

Hello,

I just noticed this post, so I will think about this subject.
For the moment I am not sure to produce something ( seems to be really hard subject ; no idea )
But if I can I will send something

Good luck to all other participants ;)

Spend two days ago with some simply brownian motion stuff.
Looks very shitty until now ... but I'll hope to find some more time in the
next days....

I have an idea for a 3D entry, but it is based on my 4D Earth project for the caculation of where everything should go. All of the drawing routines will be very different.

Will this be allowed?

Regardless, I will create it any way. Only the entry into the competition will be affected.

Of course it will be allowed!  We look forward to it!  :kewl:

Yay! I've got all the base-data for my subject matter, so I just need to create the program to present it.

Totally happy that we are now up to 8 entries for the challenge now :D

Thanks folks, the winning entries will take their rightful place on the showcase :D

Mine is almost ready - I just need to put some controls onto it and a text scroller. The 3D rendering (if it can so be called) is working, so that's the tricky bit out of the way.

It would be excellent if you entered this one Ferris :)

For a while I was wondering if we'd get many entries, but now I have to say I am really happy with it.

Yup. Me too.

For a while I had pondered about starting this code challenge, I was really worried that it wouldn't get a lot of support, now I think that people are going to have a really hard time choosing a winner, the entries are of a very, very good standard.

The deadline is GMT midnight tonight for any last minute entries, I will add the poll tomorrow morning.

Finally there is a lot of entries ...
Hope to see a lot of voters now ;)
Title: Re: MAGNIFICATION CHALLENGE!

FYI.

Please do not Update / add binaries to your entries during voting. It is unfair, two people have done so (innocently I believe), those archives have now been removed, remember that people worked hard on their entries, not everyone has voted, the deadline has passed and you are being unfair on everyone else if you ammend your comp threads, if you have any further developments on your entries, please post them elsewhere in the community but NOT on the competition threads while people are still voting!
