IF you have a shiny new 20p in your pocket, it could be worth a mint... Grin

The London Mint is offering £50 to everyone who returns NEW 20p pieces produced without the year printed on them.  Shocked

Between 50,000 and 200,000 of the shiny new 20p pieces were released into circulation in a quality control blunder last year.

The Royal Mint had planned to change the design of the coin and switch the year date from the tails side to heads on the new coins.

But due to a production cock-up, the new coins were produced with the old design of the Queen's head and the new tails designs – meaning the year date was completely omitted.

The London Mint, a private company with no connection to the Royal Mint, says the new undated 20p coins may become collectors items in the future.

But it is offering people who have the coins – dubbed "mules" because of their mismatched sides – the chance to cash in now.

Nick Hart, coin expert and spokesman for the London Mint, said: "We believe this extremely rare error will certainly get the public looking at the coins in their pockets again."

Lucky people who find undated 20p pieces need to register their details with the London Mint BEFORE sending in their coins to claim their £50.

In 1983, the Royal Mint made an error with the 2p piece and struck some with the wording "new pence" rather than "two pence".

And coin experts say the 1983 2p mule coin is currently worth £200.

What sort of mints are they worth, Glacier, Spear, Apple, Garlic, Cats?

Just a little minty joke there, as im never going to be lucky enough to get my hands on one of those.

I wonder is someone could post up the ones to look out for, along side a normal 20 pence piece.

Very simple - the "faulty" 20p coins have a "new" style back, which is part of the coat of arms as seen on certain other 2008 coins.

They also have an "old" style front, with the Queen's head and no date. "New" fronts have the year on them.
