Title: Code Tags
Post by: Shockwave on July 17, 2009
Thanks to benny for suggesting this idea, there is so much source code on here I am surprised this wasnt thought of before.

Benny pointed out to me that the code was in a rather small font and was very difficult to read, in fact I must admit to copying chunks of it into Notepad to read it, I never thought to just change the way it's displayed.

Anyway, it's dont now, the font is larger and in dark green so it should be much more readable, I may tweak the colour if people dont like it but it should definately make things easier here anyway.

Test an even more geekier color scheme.
Have a look at it ;-)

Green on black is how code should always be displayed

I have a problem with this...

When I was in College I had to use a language called COBOL, it stands for Commercial and Bollocks Orientated Language, it has no graphics commands and I had to write my code on 286 PC's with green monochrome monitors... It's just total trauma for me... But if enough people want the change.... .  .

The bigger font is definitely an improvement.  Can we leave it dark on light please?  The green on black is very low contrast and hard to read on a badly angled lcd screen (laptops in particular), at least imho.

I would prefer the light background with dark lettering as well.

I experimented with dark blue bold text in the same text pane and it looked great, so maybe a slight change to dark blue on a light background?

Yup, I guess everyone has his personal preferences. So, I think
you cannot find the ultimate colour scheme everyone is pleased
with?

Maybe the bigger size is enough ...

In the end I think Jim's point is good, that it requires at least a
good contrast. This is definately more eye-friendly.

@Shocky:
Anyway, maybe you can post a screeny of your color scheme ?

Wasn't aware of this problem. If that's the case, then okay, I have no problem with a dark on light or whathave you. Green on black will always be the classic nerd colour scheme however :P

Oh definitely.  Or amber on dark orange.  And printer paper will be 14 inches wide and have green and white bars on it :D

Checked in Azure Theme.

The code tag font is too big compared with the rest of the message text.
And the black border is too thick.
