Here's my entry for the comp.
It's a simulation of bacteria and mold.
The bacteria have a few plans
1. Subdivide!
2. Move away from overcrowded areas
3. Avoid stress by aligning with the local bugs
The mold has one plan
1. Kill bacteria!
Press the spacebar to enter into debug mode.  The red blocks indicate the population density, the green arrows with the blobs on the end indicate which way a bacteria should move to get away from the crowd.  White circles are the mold.
Alt-Enter to go full screen (800x600x60)
Let me know if it's too slow for you and I'll make one with fewer bugs.
Have a lot of fun!
Jim
<edit> fixed the bug which was making it go in debug mode and crash on exit

hehe, that's a super idea Jim, I love the luminescence of the bacteria :)

			-
				Very cool!
But for some reason it switches to "debug mode" by its' own after a while and doesn't want to go back to normal...
(WinXP, Geforece8600GTS).

Same thing happened here too after about 5 seconds

			-
Bizarre!  That'll be me trashing ram then  :crutches:
Jim
<edit> attached, debug build with no kkrunchy.
<edit2> fixed the bug properly in the first post.

Works and memory-usage keeps constant :)

			-
Thats an awesome idea and well done, Jim. I like the effect a lot.
Runs fine here with no cpu/memory problems!

Heh, this computer is ancient, the whole thing slowed to a crawl when I wasn't in debug mode. Really cool to watch, maybe needed a few more bacteria though, to help divide the crowd up a little more, and force the bacteria in interesting directions.
Still not sure how you managed to get so many of the things moving about on the screen at once though!

Didn't like the auto debug mode thing I got....but the concept was perfect for the challenge :)
Also it crashed on escape, but it's no big deal.

Great stuff! This may have educational properties. Does the mould kill the bacteria on contact?

			-
A demo with educational potential?  Pppt!  Yes it does kill on contact.  Like Domestos.
Jim
PS.  This is also a bump to say I've uploaded a zip with the debug mode bug fixed.

			-
This works great now Jim :) Thanks for uploading the final version.

			-
				Now it looks even better!

			-
				Very good one

			-
Much better with the debug mode fix :)

			-
I really like the organic effect! Complexity from simple rules. Very nice entry Jim!

			-
Good work Jim definitely a grower ;)

			-
				Cool entry
+ source
= :)

			-
				Well done, nice infection ;)
