Here is my entry into the Magnification Challenge. It is a "3D" model of the Buckminsterfullerine molecule, or C60 as it is also known.
I think it may be the deepest magnification yet entered into the competition, which I hope counts for something :)
[edit]
I have put a comma after .:Druid:.'s name, added the .swf file and altered the depth-swapping conditions. The flickering is reduced, but still noticable. If I reduce it too much, depth-swapping will be delayed too much and it will look even stranger.
[edit 2]
Zip file fixed :)

Very nice! I love the scrolltext, too. Informative, and full of bad puns!
-
At first I thought it might be an hour long casette tape ;)
Well Done Mate :)
-
Pretty cool concept :) One of my favorites so far
-
Very good work, CK0.
The rotation is just fine - on my PC the balls flickers
from time to time. No idea why.
What flash version did you do it in ? Flash 8 ?
-
It's Flash 8. The flickering is down to "Heisenberg's uncertainty principle" in the scrolling text, but it's really a small programming bug.
The z-ordering needs a schmidt-trigger sort of calculation, rather than the current one which uses precise values of the Z-axis.
I'll try to fix it tonight.
-
The text you put raises it above being a vectorbob routine :) Nice one.
-
Ah, you've seen through my clever use of vector circles with eliptical gradient filling to give the illusion of light-sourced spheres.
-
This is the funniest scrolltext I read for a decade!
The choice of colors in the gradient almost made me believe it were gouraud-triangles :)
What about an online version?
-
It can be done - I'll put a Flash Demos section on the Game Builders Club site and make the swf available for download from various places.
-
The new zip file is 0 bytes!

The new zip file is 0 bytes!
wow ... impressive compression rate. :carrot:
-
Yep, empty zip...
-
Thanks for bringing this to my attention - it's fixed now.
-
Funny scroller, interesting c60 molecule :)
-
Great work CKO.
I had a craving for Maltesers after watching that. :)
-
Just for you, I'll make a more chocolatey version.
-
Please post it elsewhere in the forum CK, thank you.
-
Will do.
-
Thanks dude and sorry for being a stickler for the rules. I have to be seen to be fair.
-
It happens some times.
Here it is again (http://www.dbfinteractive.com/forum/index.php/topic,4278.0.html), in it's own topic.
-
Very interesting entry and nice text! Thanks for the greetings! :)
-
Watched it again, still love the scroller :)
-
If my coding was a good as my puns, I might be able to win this one by a mile.

I have to be seen to be fair.
Sorry, but...
If my coding was a good as my puns, I might be able to win this one by a mile.
PunComp 2010 should be getting organised about now.
-
There's still halloween, bonfire night, thanksgiving, and Christmas to get past first.
:diablo: :t2: :stirrer: :xmas:
Not that we'll get four competitions by the end of the year, but another one could be announced at any time...

Cool vector bobs and funny scrolly :)
-
Today (4/9/2010), there's a 3d C60 molecule in their logo.

Thank Buffy they didn't have a spinning cube! We have prior art on that!

This was really funny! I loved the "science" behind it all.
-
I've wanted to become a science teacher, but I've seen what the career shift from technician to teacher can do to a personality.
It isn't nice.
If I present the science in this form, I don't need to stick to the whole truth all the time ;D

Excelente programa
Felicidades!!!!!!!!!!!!
Te invito a ver mi Display Molecular

I'm glad you like my work. Your molecular display is better than this.
