So here's a small entry to the magnification challenge.
What you see is a growing set of cells.
They jostle, divide and do a little bit of pogo-dancing when the beat starts.
You can also move 'em using your mouse.
This time there are no fancy shaders involved, you just need something OpenGLish capable of multi-texturing.
Sadly a lot of ideas had to be left undone as I was a bit low on time :(
Hope you have some fun with anyways.
Music, again, by Dune aka Brothomstates (http://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?detail=modules&view=2313) and one texture was done by Acryl (http://www.myspace.com/mitch_a).
Uses MiniFMOD (http://www.fmod.org/) to play XM.
How it works:
The cell structure is obtained by constructing a Voronoi diagram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voronoi) from a set of points.
For those interested in the technique I've attached an early version I used for debugging.
Here you can see the cell points (black; you can move them with your mouse),
the delaunay triangulation (green),
the triangles' circum-circles (red),
the voronoi-cells (blue) whose edge-points are equal with the circles' centers.

That's an awesome effect. It looks somehow simple on the
first look - but I cannot stop staring at it and taking a closer
look it gets more interesting every second somehow.
The sync'ing to the music (well chosen btw) puts an additional
Whow-FX to your production.
Thanks for entering and very good job!

I get an error message saying
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I'll try it at home tonight - it may be a hardware issue.
The picture looks cool though.

I really like the way that the cells slide over each other, the movement of them is what makes this so cool to wacth :)

You probably need to install the Visual C++ Redistribution Package (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en) which contains some updated runtime-DLLs.

That's fixed it.
Very smooth, and just when I was thinking "How'd he do that?" the flashing effect started up, and then that really had me puzzled!
Great entry 8)

VERY nice :) My personal favorite of the compo (so far ;) )!!
Got my vote :)

Lovely, especially the pulsing. Second texture is missing on my netbook, but that's probably to be expected.

I just keep staring at it thinking, "He can't be doing this in real time". AMAZING!
