Title: MAGNIFICATION CHALLENGE VOTING!
Post by: Shockwave on July 26, 2009
Magnification Challenge Voting!

Firstly I just want to say how overwhelmingly brilliant this challenge has been, I am really proud of the entries that this community has made to this challenge, you've really done yourselves proud.

There are a lot of different approaches taken to this challenge as usual, some people used cutting edge technology, people had different takes on the subject matter and in the end we ended up with examples ranging from lenses to a journey through a circulatory system.

I have no idea who will win this, it's too close to call, there are several entries here that are all worthy of the top place.

I need to apologise for the delay of a couple of hours in getting the voting started, it's just that there are 17 entries this time and they took a while to type them up!!

Do yourself a favour and have a glance through the topic and refresh your memory on these wonderful things before you vote, the makers deserve that!

Voting Rules

Karma and prizes will be awarded when voting closes!

Thanks for voting.

A great competition, a fantastic turn out as far as entries are concerned and all the votes have been counted!

First of all a huge thank you to everyone who supported this challenge, it's been one of the best that we have ever had, I had no idea who would win in the end, the standard as ever these days was very high.

Everyone who entered has been given K+1 for each entry they submitted, sigs have been awarded to the winners and the entries are already in the showcase.

Thank you too for all the voters, it was a pretty good turn out for the voting too.
Congratulations to:

HELLFIRE (1ST)
FERRIS (2ND)
JIM & RBZ (3RD - JOINT)
See you in the next challenge!

Grats to the winner
Thanks to the others participants of course.

Again I get few votes ... and my worst demo ( for me ) had one more vote than my best one :s

Just, thought for a win of febris ... a 4k ... :s

The judges have spoken :) What a marvellous sight to behold the many entries.

Time to develop our skills for next time.

And it seems that Shockwave's self doubt was misplaced - Life Through A Lense did make it into the top 5.

The votes are decided by the forum users, personally I thought that there were at least four entries here that could have potentially won it. Congratulations to everyone who took part, it was fantastic.

Wasn't good enough to win a sig though :)
Title: Re: MAGNIFICATION CHALLENGE VOTING!
Post by: LittleWhite on August 01, 2009
Of course the votes are made for the users ( and as good user I vote too ( not for my demo ... maybe it is the cause of this low score :p ) )

And I will continue to code anyway ;) I am doing always the challenge at the last moment :p.
Moreover was for me a kind of introduction to the shaders (GLSL) ( maybe the cause of the problem to run my demos :p )
Anyway, I am already updating my framework to a better result for the next time ;)

Good luck next time Littlewhte, fyi it is against the rules to self-vote, the poll is audited by myself and jim and believe me, nobody has self voted in the challenge, I know because I checked.
Title: Re: MAGNIFICATION CHALLENGE VOTING!
Post by: LittleWhite on August 01, 2009
I know, I am always reading the rules before voting ... and my sentence was a joke ( I mainly don't mind about the results, just happy to particpate and to see other demos ).

But now I know that you are checking ... I am maybe too confident to think that nobody will self voted ( I am in a happy world :p )
Title: Re: MAGNIFICATION CHALLENGE VOTING!

Yeah they are always checked out mate, it's very important that the results are impartial :) Good luck for the next one. We have a theme in mind already. I might even post it tomorrow.

Title: Re: MAGNIFICATION CHALLENGE VOTING!
Post by: Shockwave on August 02, 2009
Some last thoughts from me about this excellent challenge that I think should be said.

These challenges are a bit of fun, people enter them with the same spirit, in this case we had 17 entrants and 23 voters, it is concievable that some people could possibly get no votes... As is clear, there are several entries here that could have won it, there are three votes per person, it's no reflection on someone who has a few votes that they made a bad demo.

Nobody made a bad demo, everyone who enters has a great deal of respect and you should look at your comments as well.

As for whether another entry should have won the competition then I disagree with that because there is a clear majority of voters who voted for Cells.

The entry with the most votes wins, ergo Hellfire won.

As Hellfire says, it is the job of the voters to decide.

Please don't take these challenges too seriously, they are a bit of fun, an opportunity to express your creativity among friends, if you feel aggrieved in any way about the results of the voting then please understand that nobody massages them, they are the opinions of the people who visit here and you should keep your personal thoughts on matters like this to yourselves.

To post them here will only make the people who were rightly voted into the top three feel bad about their achievment and it somehow undermines the great thing that you all do for this community when you enter the challenges.

Thanks.

I hope no one is taking my comment seriously, it was ment as a joke, votes or not the compo made me open the ide which is something I dont do often enough these days.

I am actually looking forward to the next compo, want to try and put some more effort in and really get into the ide and code something cool, so make it soon :D

It's not so much a case of pushing the technical boundaries, but pushing your own boundaries as a coder.

Also, there can only be one winner. Even on an even playing field, each entry had a 1 in 17 chance of winning.

I'm not passing judgement, but even my 1 vote result was a wake-up call for me. I need to get back in shape mentally and spend more than 10 hours on a competition entry if I want a podium finish.

Code ->  :boxer: <- Me
