Guidelines for use here.
If you find a thread with broken attachments and ONLY if you have those attachments, please reply to this post.
Add the attachment(s) to your post (max 4096kb) using the additional options tab.
Please post the url to the topic where the attachment needs to be added too.
Mods:
Please go to that topic, edit the topic, uncheck the attachment option and post it.
Then edit it again, uploading the attachments to the post.
When it is done successfully, please remove the post from this thread.
Thanks.
-
You dont need to be a Mod to change the attachments it seems Shockwave as long as its your original post, I just edited my juggler post in misc and removed the old attachments, posted the update then re-edit and attach.
Ofc it wont help if your not the original poster but it will make the mods job far easier if original posters can update there own if they have the files.
-
Good point, if you can edit your own posts it would be better :)
If you have the files to fix someone elses post please post 'em here.

Is it possible to do some sql-voodoo or something to list all posts which have attachments included?

Is it possible to do some sql-voodoo or something to list all posts which have attachments included?
Yes mate, this is on the list of things to do.
All I need to do is get a directory listing of the attachments directory and a dump of the table in the database and then remove the hashes.
[Edit:]
Attached zip containing attachments list and sql dump

Thanks waynet those are done

No probs mate.I'll wait to see if the original posters fix there own attachments first to save the mods time.I will have a good look tomorrow and flag any others i come across. :)
-
I'll see how many of my old comp entries and other stuff I have floating around my collection of hard disks.
-
That would be really appreciated.
-
Just re-uploaded some magnification compo entries, some of them are missing like:
-Molecular Fusion
-Life through a lense
And some need updated files:
-Cells
-Bacteria
-C60

Thanks mate :)

Excellent! Exactly what I need to write a scanner that will let folks scan their PCs for stuff we know is missing :)

:) Nice one Jim

Some of my early work (attached) that rainstorm thoughtfully posted needs to be added here: http://www.dbfinteractive.com/forum/index.php/topic,4252.msg56732.html#msg56732 (http://www.dbfinteractive.com/forum/index.php/topic,4252.msg56732.html#msg56732)
Also, I've been looking at some of the bits and pieces I have of other peoples; I have the competitions winners 'Piedraw' and 'dimentionalwarp'*. If anyone knows which thread they belong in (I haven't the foggiest!) and they're missing, I'll upload those for you as well.
* I also have Jim's bacteria, but as I can see, Jim has already fixed his up, no flies on him!
<ta for the attachments, Jim>
-
Here are my results from the missing file checks:
First attachment is all missing files by forum/topic name - there's a lot of cruft in there to do with thumbnails and whatnot that aren't too important. I might just auto-generate some placeholder 'missing image' files for those.
Second attachment is more important, these are the missing zip and rar files.
Rename the .txt files to .html to view them.
I intend to write a scanner that will trawl a member's hard disk for these files.

Its at times like these you wish everybodies .exe was the same as the topic title ;)
-
I have updated my posts and restored links to stuff I still have. I lost some things when my computer crashed a while back.
-
I have updated my recent demo/intro and misc threads, some of the older topics I dont seem to have the files for, but I think everything I hve completed within the last few months is done. Other topic's, certainly older ones might be alittle harder to sort out.
-
Edit - Thanks mate!
-
Many thanks!
-
We're still watching this thread and trying to fix attachments :)
Any you have, please do post them so we can carry on fixing the forum up!
Thanks.
-
I keep going to put my attachments back up, but I find they've already been done. Thank you.
I'll start again from the oldest, and work my way forwards.
-
Yup, I browsed through my posts and I realized that e.g. monoPong/pinkPong
are already fixed.
I only found one missing file I fixed.
When I see a post with a missing file I will of course try to fix it.
-
The really great news is that Jim is working on a solution that will potentially fix a lot of the broken attachments, basically he has a list of what is in the database and what is in the attachment directory and he's been working on a solution to see how the hashes in the database correspond to the file names.
Hopefully a utility will be created to scan members hard drives for missing files which can be located, submitted, converted and then uploaded into the attachments directory.
In the meantime, please keep fixing your posts and posting attachments here for us to repair.
-
Uhh...thats sounds like a great idea for a tool. That would be very cool.
-
[Edit: All fixed, thanks Wayne.]

i can't see the REPLY link in the Tutorial section
I wanted to reply to this message http://www.dbfinteractive.com/forum/index.php/topic,4113.msg55257.html#msg55257
all of the attachments should be in the zips I sent JIM a few days ago... but for the ones that can't wait i'll attach on this message... ;)
[Fixed - Thanks.. sw. ]
-
Still waiting on a few more zip files that I've been promised, then the files have to go through one more transformation (I have to write another program) before I can upload them. Got 70Mb of zips so far which is brilliant!

Look where the RR tutorial link is too - up on the right hanging over the top of the posting box. It's like the css isn't always loading properly. I've noticed the pages now seem to render in stages. Text, then some formatting, then links to attachments. It's a bit odd.
The pages arrive half baked and then seems there are chunks of Javascript fixing the classes and markup in the browser. If that fails anywhere the page won't appear complete.

@moroboshian: Are you using Internet Explorer 8? If so use compatability view; that might fix her up.
-
Internet Explorer 8?
NO! NOT! NUNCA! NEVER! JAMAIS!!!! ;)
I'm using Firefox 3.5.3 for almost 99% of the time... I've fired up IE6 just to upload stuff onto Jim's server (too lazy to d/l, install and set Filezilla...).
-
Fuck internet explorer... Every version of it sucks and is just (to use xalthorns words) a glossy viruis door.
I haven't had any of these problems with the page loading, however I have implimented a fix for the people who really hate the browser bugs.
You can select the standard smf theme in your profile, that sucks a bit I know but I really don't know why these bugs are happening in some browsers and since I can't re-create them here it makes them hard to fix.
[Edit- signiture should say fuckings to hostpapa as well]

I'm actually experiencing that problem with Firefox 3.5.3 (running on XP-SP3)

I run the same setup, no problems here, it's a really difficult bug to reproduce so thats why I made the default theme available in case it's a problem. You can select it in your profile :)
-
same glitches with every layout... just tested... could it be a problem localized just on my PC?
Never had any problem like that before... (as long as I'm aware)
-
Other people have reported the same glitches.
Maybe it's something to do with us being on a different version of the SMF software now.
-
Only seven people have uploaded files from Jims attachment scanner, this is quite frankly a pathetic response.
If you haven't done so yet, please do run the scanner, we need those files.

Just done this now mate.I would urge everybody to run it and not think that all the attachments will be retrieved off somebody elses scan. :)

[Cheers Wayne, but this was the wrong file, thanks for the others tho!]

[Thx! K+++]
-
Thanks for the karma mate. :)
Wire should be on the hard drive of my laptop so should be able to upload them via Jim :updance:
-
Please put any bug reports in a topic in General Chat though, this is a great thread and it would be a shame to put it off topic. Cheers.
$
feel free to remove messages if you fell like so... i just wanted to give some evidence to other ppl thoughts... :)
didn't mean to go intentionally off topics...
i just switched from default theme to standard theme... nothing has really happened... glitches are still there... i'll attach a couple of screenshot for you to see...
-
I hate these glitches but the good thing is that they are on both themes so I will get some support from SMF. I cannot reproduce these bugs on my browser.
btw do you still have the problem with images appearing over the text in the default theme?
-
standard theme looks fine now! ;)

I havent changed anything though!

you're damned right!... maybe I focused on the image position and haven't noticed that annoying glitch on the right...
WFT!!! sorry mate... my mistake, I need to apologize! :whack:
-
Jim thinks he knows what the problem is, hopefully I'll have it sussed in a few days, leave it with me mate and Ill see what I can do.
