Post by: Shockwave on October 03, 2009
:rip:HALLOWEEN COMPETITION 2009 :rip:

:csaw: !TIME TO MAKE SOMETHING SPOOKY! :csaw:

Soon it will be Halloween again and it has become a little bit of a tradition on this forum to run a halloween challenge.. You can take your inspiration from all kinds of things like horror movies, ghost stories, haunted houses and even pagan traditions.

There's tons of this stuff out there to be inspired by.

So this time the challenge is to make a demo or intro with a Halloween theme and the good news is that thanks to the generous sponsorship of the forums by some of our members that there is a cash prize on offer this time too! :)

So time to get inspired, watch some old dracular films, listen to thriller, read some HP Lovecraft, run around the house with a white sheet over your head, Halloween is almost here again so make something spooky!

:axekill: :hanging: Here are the rules!  :hanging:  :axekill:

:suicide: Here are the prizes!  :suicide:

  • 1st Place  £20 - Sig - 15 Karma
  • 2nd Place - £10 - Sig - 10 Karma
  • 3rd Place -  Sig - 5 Karma
  • All entries get 1 Karma

I've just had a brill idea for an entry. I'll have to shoe-horn in some AI. Or maybe some user interaction.

Zombieland looks awesome. If I hadn't already written a zombie game (http://rickclark58.googlepages.com/efl42) I would do that.

I have mastered a new Flash effect (new to me anyway) just for this contest - though many here would probably know how to make it work in other development systems.

I'm still working on the AI - that will be the hard part, but it will be like a 2D version of an effect Jim used in his Cubes demo many Halloweens ago.

Can we enter games in this comp? I may have something thrown together in time if that's the case...

Mine now does what it will eventually say in the title, but it still needs the scroller and the final effects adding in.

Ok, from the screenshot, I haven't got a clue what that might become when it's finished. A wild guess would be: something with spiderwebs!? Anyways, hang in there dude. I would love to see the final product! :)

Not so wild a guess afterall; bang on the money!

Where is it? I wanna see! :D

Looks like we will have some really cool entries! :)

I was worried that we weren't going to get any for a while!

I just need to add the scroller and the "interpretter".

I've done a classic and fell asleep at the PC mid way through trying to finish.

Best of Luck to all entries and entrants,
Clyde.

Well we have four entries, that's enough for a challenge and someone is going to win some cash!

Thanks for those entries guys, I really appreciate them.

The challenge is now closed to new entries.

Sorry for the no-show guys, I ended up spending so much time trying to make it as prettiful as possible, I never completely finished the game engine :P

So, while on the downside the engine is only 75% done (enemy code is only half finished, same with scoring system) on the upside, it looks a lot nicer than that mess of a screenshot I posted earlier. Should be able to make a release outside the comp in a week or two, hopefully.

Good luck to all of you who entered, I'm about to try them all out :)
