Hi there!
I am owner of an Intel Q8200 CPU which is refered to work @2,33 Ghz! I have never tried before any real benchmark test... just only 3DMark06 to see the performace of my HD4870 in combination of the Q8200 CPU!
I am looking a bit over to the 1336 i7 CPUs, like the i7 920 and to the new i7 930 CPU! While searching and comparing some benchmarks on the web, i found some interested tools to check your CPU! Here i noticed with different programs, that my CPU seems not to work at 2,33 Ghz... Just only at around 2 Ghz O.O
So what wrong here? Did i made something wrong when i build my PC or why all tools showing me, that my Q8200 is just only working at ~2Ghz instead 2,33 Ghz?

Hi. Your multiplicator should be set to 7 and not 6.

Thanks! Mhhh... have heard very often about multiplicator when read about overclocking... i have absolutly no idea about how to overclock... never tried it yet... so i have no idea how and where to change the multiplicator in the bios... Thougt the bios would set the multiplicator automatical to the value it require... Now i will take a look inside the bios..

Have taked a look to the bios and even to the CPU settings... i cant find any settings with multiplicator :(
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q

333.30 x 6 is the Multiplicator right?

yes it seem so, as you can see on the screenshot. sadly i have no idea where to change it in the bios options, because i cant find something like that :boxer:

FYI : Dont be suprised if you cant find the cpu multiplier option in your bios settings, alot of bios' dont include it at all. and there is even less likely that it would work even if it was present since most modern cpu's (since the athlon xp / p4 era ) are 'Clock Locked' ie the cpu would ignore your setting even if it is present and changed.
You best bet is to tweak your fsb up slighty. But, again, if it could be physically clocked at more than 32 mhz higher then it would be sold as a better speed cpu in the first place.
AMD/INTEL rate the cpu at its highest performing + still stable frequency then they sell it at that speed.
For example: If AMD made a cpu thats SUPOSED to be an 1800+ xp BUT it actually turns out to be a really good chip and clocks in at 2200+ thats what they sell it as.. a 2200 + xp.
Thats why o/clocking nowdays rarely works, CPU's are already sold in overclocked form.
Ive had large amounts of experience w/ overclocking and, honestly, just buy a faster processor.... over clocking rarely works and when it does it usually knocks all the CPU/MEM/PCI syncronisation right out :D

thanks. i have no experience in overclocking! And i dont really want overclock my CPU... i just only want the power of my CPU that it should have (Q8200 @ 2,33 Ghz) instead as all tools shows only Q8200 @ ~ 1,999 Ghz!

its already at the power it 'should' be.
That's the point. my CPU is an XP 3200+ but is still only clocks at 2200 Ghz. Then to complicate matters further Intel compare there Cpu's to the AMD's Performance Rating (or PR). Dont be suprised if the Pr is substancially higher than the actual clock speed. In short ur CPU is prolly already at its max speed w/o causing errors. If your CPU is not hiting max speed as advertised then the limitation is prolly ur mb/memory combo thats holding it all back.
Mem/Cpu/PCI Sync is important in getting the max speed from ur CPU.

weird i have the same CPU and the same mobo and it works just fine
