Here is my entry for the contest, I learned a lot while putting this together. The splash screen is directly inspired by Optimus' entry (though a lot simpler to implement), I always loved the 2d ripple effects, but I never tried them myself.
I link to the swf directly, so you can resize with the browser window. The splash screen might be a bit low-res at full screen, you can resize your browser, or call it retro. :)
I'm interested to hear about performance on your machine, it seems to improve at smaller sizes.

The arrow keys do various things.

That is a neat entry. Very creative. I like the intro screen. Runs fine for me using FF.
-
Awesome work Dude :)
-
Thanks! :)
At around what nr of drops does your fps start to dip?
Once upon a time I bought a pretty powerfull machine but I have no idea how it compares today, which can be difficult with development.
I keep fps steady up to around 50-60 drops, with a smaller browser window up to around 70-80.
-
Wonderful :)
I can't decide whether I like the title screen more than the actual effect!
-
Very nice effect.
I got 24 fps in a small window and I can watch it properly, I've a core2duo 2.40 ghz, geforce 8800 gts.
-
Awesome work. And extra bonus applaus for entering a flash entry.
Like it a lot!
-
Great work. I really enjoyed to play with.
-
 That is excellent - loved it!
-
I liked both effects and it was quite interesting to see that you implemented color mixing!
-
 Funny, realy funny.
I would start to learn programming flash reading your source code
-
Thanks all! I was enjoying it as well, so I have added sound and music, you can now really splash around in the splash screen! :)
The music shows off the color mixing a bit better. I tried making the paint dance to the microphone input, so it would dance to any music, but AS2's mic function has got some serious echo issues unfortunatly. :(
conte0, I don't think it's good source to start, it be pretty messy. I can explain a specific function if you want though.

Hypnotic Liquid Drops!! 8)
I really like the shading effect.
the fps is 24, if thats of any use.
-
Very cool stuff. That openeing screen rocks!
-
Fantastic stuff.
It was brilliant even before switching the music on!
I really like it.
-
Thank you! I liked the way it turned out as well, couldn't stop playing with it myself. :)
The color mixing was easier then I had expected, because the entire fluid consists of multiple balls/drops, the lot of them together mix the colors smoothly enough, while the actual mixing between 2 drops/colors is a single step (sum of both their color values divided by 2).
[edit]
BTW, Flash uses a fixed framerate (25 fps in this case), so fps is only usefull in relation to the nr of drops. I'm mostly interested at around what nr of drops, fps start to fall for you. I keep fps steady up to around 50-60 drops at normal size.

Just awesome! You have my vote ;)
-
That's awesome! The second part is great and is something I was also thinking to try as a second entry but didn't :)
-
That's just way too fun ;)
-
Yay, another flash entry. I like the colour blending. I can guess all I want as to how you did it, but it could take me years. Genius.
-
Awesome thing, controls are working very well, and the liquid moves very fluently. Unbelievable you can do such a thing in the web-browser and this many fps!
